[boy oh boy, isn't everyone just so excited to explore this... charming... place...?

this is a game-wide mingle and the timeframe isn't super-important, so throw in with whatever you want! play war games, go shopping for gas masks, get lost in the wilderness, hide up in the Iskaulit and refuse to set foot on the moon, anything goes.

[He taps his chin, considering all of the masks.]

Mmm... That's a real good question! I haven't even figured out my favorite one.

What kind of things d'you like? Maybe we can find something!

That's just it. I'm not sure, either.

[He gestures toward the rack he's examining - some of the more fanciful ones, like a bird mask, but also some very minimalist ones.]

I don't want it to cover my whole face. [He sounds firm about that.] I want people to still know it's me.

[He nods.]

That makes lots of sense! 'Cus then how are they gonna know it's you?

It'll be like we got two faces people gotta remember.

... Or see when people are happy or sad...?

[How the heck do the normal people here do it, man.]

You got it. Maybe something like--

[Finn picks up one of the more translucent ones and holds it over his face. His voice is slightly muffled when he speaks.]

Like this one, see? Still me, but with clean air.

[He claps his hands together, wide-eyed and nodding in agreement.]

Yeah, yeah! That's a good one!

And your head won't get sweaty! It's kinda weird that people wear ones that cover their whole head, 'cus I know I'd get super sweaty and super gross and smell bad.

[But then, these people are totally used to it. Still. Blerugh.]

Maybe I'll get this one, then. [There's another one he's eyeing too, a black leather half-mask with gold detailing that doesn't clash too badly with his jacket. Finn holds that one over his face in turn.]

Or maybe this one? Or both. I could get one for the city and one for exploring outside. I think I got enough money for that.

Ooh -- is it comfortable?

[He says the word carefully; it's not a common word in his vocabulary.]

You don't want one that squeezes your face. But it looks neat!

S'kinda cool that we get to have money here, huh? And we get to meet people at new places here!

Yeah. I mean, it's not uncomfortable. [Finn those are not the same thing - but when what you're used to is standard issued equipment with no customization, he'll take "not uncomfortable.".]

You think so? Good, I'll take it, then. [He motions the kid over to the counter to stand in line.] Are you getting one?

[Finally, someone who gets it.] Yeah, it is. And we don't even have to do much for the money.

[He nods. He definitely needs a mask! He's just not sure which one yet.

But at the kinship there about money, he smiles.]

Yeah! And we don't have to fight anything for money! They don't make us.

This place isn't that bad.

Or fight things and still get no money. [It's muttered under his breath, but the kid might be able to catch it anyway.]

I think so, too.

[He blinks, surprised by the comment.]

Y-yeah! I didn't get money when I fought, neither. I got points.

Do you fight a lot?

[Whoops, he didn't mean to say that out loud.] Only training fights, I hope. Or you older than you look? [Finn was definitely still only in training when he was that small.]

When it's practice fights, yeah. I'm not in real ones too much, but it happens sometimes.

[He shakes his head.]

No, sir, not practice! Not make-believe or pretend neither.

We never got to practice before they made us go. [He hums quietly, a sad and thoughtful expression passing his face as he looks through the shelves.] That's why a lotta' people died all the time, I think. They didn't know what to do. I woulda' died if my dad didn't always protect me. I fought by myself sometimes, though. When my dad wasn't able to save me, I had to save myself!

[He tries on a random mask; nothing special, and he seems not pleased with the feel of it.]

[Whoa, whoa, wait just a minute there.]

Even I know that's pretty messed-up. Good thing your dad was there, but--why'd a kid have to fight in the first place? It takes years to develop the right kind of skills to run a live-fire exercise and be in control of the situation. Was it--was it like here, where you had someone making you do it? Or were you in a war?

[That's. probably prying too much, and Finn seems to realize it because he shuts his mouth abruptly.]

Uh, you don't have to answer that if you don't want. Sorry.

[He shakes his head again — but this time, with a trained sort of casualness.

He's so very used to talking about this part of his life.]

It's okay! You don't gotta say sorry.

[He continues trying on masks as he talks, cycling through to find a preference.]

It's 'cus I died. The man in the ball brings people back to life, and if you fight enough of the bad guys and get points, you can leave and be a normal person again. That's what my dad used to tell me! And we did it, too. We got out before, and got to be normal for a little tiny bit...

But then more bad stuff happened, and we had to go back.

'Cus aliens were trying to take lots of people and blow everything up...

[Finn frowns in concentration, trying to follow that. Maybe it was...another place like this? He'd thought he was dead when he first arrived here, and he's heard people have been at other weird places that take people from their homes. Yeah, maybe it was something like that. He nods.]

Well, sounds like we don't have to worry about that here, right? At least, not yet.

[One of the masks catches his eye - it looks a little like a wolf.] How about that one?

[He beams, looking pleased.]

Yeah, it's a lot nicer here than the last place! Even if I do miss my friends a lot...

[He focuses his attention on the mask, though. Ah...!]

I like it! But wolves can be kinda scary sometimes. They're really fast and have sharp teeth!

Don't you think so?

I hope you find a lot of new friends, then. I miss my friends, too, but--I'll see them again. [Obviously he'll see Poe again soon since he's on the Marsiva, but Finn also has no doubt he'll see Rey again. It's just something he's sure of, somehow.]

Yeah, but it depends if you want to look scary. I think there's a nicer looking one on the other side. [The other one he's talking about is a dog, but Finn really can't tell Earth animals apart.]

[He nods, solidarity in the way his expression relaxes.]

You'll make new friends, too. We'll have so many, we'll never have to fight alone!

[Ah — he gives a smile.]

It's a puppy!

[Given how ingrained teamwork is to him....] I'd like that. I'd like that a lot.

[And he grins back.] See if it fits. Might look good on you.

[He is totally grabbing that dog mask. Behold!

He is half-dog now, obviously! He lets out a squeaky bark.]

Do I look cool?!

[He looks a little like a Bothan without all the fur, but Finn grins.]

I think so, yeah. If it fits, ought to get it.
