first one to make that doctor who joke loses

Who: Everyone! All of you!
Broadcast: Maybe!
Action: Definitely!
When: Anytime during the toxic moon event!

[boy oh boy, isn't everyone just so excited to explore this... charming... place...?

this is a game-wide mingle and the timeframe isn't super-important, so throw in with whatever you want! play war games, go shopping for gas masks, get lost in the wilderness, hide up in the Iskaulit and refuse to set foot on the moon, anything goes.

here's the main event info post for reference! have fun!]

'tis quite new to me. [Lie.] But beginner's luck counts for much. [Such a lie.]

[He arranges his own forces with a sort of studied laziness, much more suited for offense. Though of course, he has a plan.]

Does it? [There's no such thing, in his experience. Loki would have been learning this kind of game from childhood, even if Thor would have rather gone for the purely physical training instead.

But then, JARVIS had learned them all and how to win at them well before he'd gained what counted as sapience.]

I look forward to the game, then.

[And it begins.]

Calculate the odds, if it suits. [Yes, he's cut his teeth on these game boards. And he has his own chaotic element--and the fact that he's not shy about cheating if the mood strikes him.

Since as far as he's concerned, honor is for people who don't want to win badly enough.]

I shall endeavor to not disappoint.

[The Vision doesn't cheat - but he's also not averse to using dirty techniques, as long as they won't actually get him banned from play if caught.

In the first few turns, he concentrates on building up his resources and making as close to a seamless defense as the game allows. Immediately after repelling an attack from a neighbor, though, his counter neatly snaps up several more regions.]

[Loki's far more interested in letting his opponents eliminate each other. He nudges one or the other to go on the attack, and then quietly sweeps up what remains behind them. It's a strategy that lets him build well without risking much himself, something he prefers. ]

[Interesting strategy. Very interesting indeed. He sees the logic in it, of course.

He goes back to shoring up his defenses, easier now that he has more income. And look, if he simply takes one more territory he can get a monopoly on one of the resources. How convenient.]

[Too bad Loki;s sliding on in there to take it first, because no way he's letting Vision get a monopoly. And he'll throw in an attack as well, just sacrificing a few pieces to divide the attention.]

[The attack is neatly rebuffed, though he does look regretful that he didn't get the monopoly himself. Perhaps it's something he could work toward.

Seeming to focus his attention on Loki's side of the board, the Vision happens to idly crush one of the other players utterly. Oops?]

[Loki doesn't seem to have a care in the world as he nibbles at the edges of another player's territory, using Vision's attack as a distraction. ]

[After the attack, he once again works on making his home territories impregnable. He's been aggressive enough for now, he judges, and it's time to see what everyone else can do.

For the most part, this means focusing on one another. Interestingly, the Vision notes the exact point at which the game could have turned had he and Loki teamed up...but it passes, and before too long the other players are giving up huge swaths of land in exchange for troops.]

[Loki, for his part, does his best to prod the other players into taking swipes at Vision. Loki's own defense is less obvious, so he can play the part of the wounded bird. But look at Vision, so threatening gobbling up such territory.

He even offers some temporary alliances, very sweetly.

Until the last one, when he consumes one of his neighbors entirely in a single round. Oopsie, was that him?]

[Very threatening indeed, isn't he? But look how tough it would be to attack him, and look at little Loki over there with that super obvious hole in his walls, why not attack that instead?

Between the two of them, they play the other competitors like the pieces on the board they are, until it's down to just the two of them and one other, resiliently holding on to his island territory with the persistence of a mongoose.]

[personal profile] complicatedliar 2016-03-29 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
[This is basically what Loki assumed would happen. The rest of the players didn't stand a chance, and the only real opponent has been Vision. He'll clean up the idiot on the island shortly, but it's too expensive to make the first move when he's going to have to deal with Vision first. He considers his resources and then tacitly offers the island player a territory that has a resource hold Loki no longer needs.

Temptation.]

[Rather than letting the third player go for the resource, the Vision instead decides to give Loki a different kind of test. Using the heaviest units he has, he moves toward the resource - totally blocking off the island player, but leaving himself wide open to Loki.

It's a bad move and he knows it's a bad move, but he really isn't interested in winning the game so much as learning more about his opponent.]

[Loki considers this with the same expression he's worn all game, a sort of mild amusement.]

You lose in three rounds.

[He points a finger at the island player.]

You win.

[And then with a casual move of his hand, he flips the board. Then he rises smoothly to his feet.]

Lovely game.

[And walks away.

Don't bait him, creature.]

[As for himself, the Vision gravely shakes the hand of the bewildered island player and watches Loki stomp out.

A good game indeed.]

[Annoyed as he is, he does not stomp. He ended the game on his own terms my not wasting his time.

He's not going to forget the insult of being so transparently baited any time soon, though.]
