[boy oh boy, isn't everyone just so excited to explore this... charming... place...?

this is a game-wide mingle and the timeframe isn't super-important, so throw in with whatever you want! play war games, go shopping for gas masks, get lost in the wilderness, hide up in the Iskaulit and refuse to set foot on the moon, anything goes.

[ She tilts her head, watching him look up and down before she fights her flush - because he's looking her over and she's not entirely sure what judgement he's made. At least she has a good enough answer. ]

Something like that. It was my sigil, in the Drabwurld, and it's the mascot of my house from home - Gryffindor.

[ And, then - ]

I can also turn into a lioness. My world calls it being an animagus.

[ back on earth, it would've been dangerous to admit something like that, but cas has never really harbored any particular vitriol toward monsters, or other various non-humans (save, of course, for demons), he's not human himself, after all, but hunters don't draw those distinctions.

there aren't any hunters here, though, save for sam, and he's pretty sure that perspectives around here are a little.. different. so he just grins. ]

Those're a whole lot of nonsense words to me, but hey, it's a handy trick.

Oh - sometimes I get a little ahead of myself. I'm sorry.

[ And she does smile, careful, standing a little taller. She's not forgotten that she was a Marchioness, once, or that she had become an ambassador; she's proud enough and strong enough that she feels as though she can carry that with her, at least. She does want to do what she can not to appear arrogant or a know-it-all, hidden fears she can't ever quite get rid of.

Crossing her arms, she shakes her head. ]

It's all just magic, really.

[ no worries, darling, cas definitely isn't reading her as arrogant. maybe a little, you know, nerdy, but hey, so is he. she's smart and confident, and that's great, makes him more curious about her, so cas just grins slow and lazy. ]

Magic, huh?

[ a passing glance, while he's half-turning to pay for the mask. ]

How's that work, where you're from?

[ His grin soothes her a little and she relaxes, almost obviously, slipping back into the Marchioness-image - people used to come for her looking for guidance and support and she could do that, could play the part of the earnest, intelligent woman well enough to get by. It's only here, in a new world where she's entirely out of the loop, that she remembers how fickle confidence can be. ]

That's right. You're looking at a witch.

[ She fumbles with the leather on her arm, poking her wand out to show it off. ]

Wave the wand, say the spell and, voila. Magic. It's very stereotypical to what most muggles imagine.

[ where he comes from, witches are pretty bad news, so cas cocks an uncertain brow at the word, but he's giving her the benefit of the doubt here. she's a good soul with a good heart, not likely to go liquefying people or ripping their teeth out.

or, you know. he doesn't think so, at least. here's hoping.

once he's got the mask bought and paid for, cas turns and meanders a little closer, eyeing the wand curiously. ]

Muggles?

[ Hermione isn't entirely used to magic being a dangerous fear, not anymore - the Drabwurld was made up of it, and the Wizarding World had been founded upon magic and it's secrecy. She's more relaxed, which is probably something in her favour more than anything else.

She tilts her head up, leaning close to Cas before she offers her wand - not for him to take, of course, but to look at. ]

It means someone without magic. Non-magical folk.

What a funny word.

[ but cas still seems a little bewildered, needs a little clarification, here. ]

Non-magical..? I don't follow.

[ witches don't really have those sorts of restrictions, where he's from. ]

In my world, there's Wizarding society and then there's muggle society. Most muggles don't actually know that there's witches and wizards that really exist - mostly for their safety. Can you imagine the shortcuts and dangers there would be if people without magic knew there was magic?

[ Hermione frowns, shaking her head. ]

So there's two words, especially for people that have family members that don't have magic, like me.

Yeah, I can understand that. It's sort of like that where I come from, in a way.

[ considering the common man has no idea that angels and demons exist, or monsters and spirits for that matter. some people are better off left blissfully ignorant. ]

But witches aren't exclusive or anything. Any human can work magic with the right tools, back home. Or non-human, for that matter.

Is it? It's the first time I've heard anyone say that here.

[ So far, at least. She does frown, though, tilting her head. ]

It's definitely not like that in my world. If muggles try to use magical things than it can be disastrous - they could hurt themselves or someone else.

Heh, well it can still be disastrous for sure, but that's just because magic is finicky, and dangerous, and people get in over their heads and don't know what they're dealing with.

[ a shrug. ]

But yeah, there are no, uh.. muggles. Not everyone knows magic exists. Most don't, really -- [ or didn't, but semantics. ] -- but it sure is free for all to use and abuse.

You're right, it is dangerous, especially in the wrong hands. Abuse of magic is a serious problem, and there should really be more guidelines to stop it.

[ She shakes her head, frowning. ]

That's probably why people without magic aren't told about it, for the most part, in my world. To keep them - and us - safe.

Mm, I suppose so. People really have a knack for killing each other.

[ understatement of the century, really, but hey, cas loves 'em anyway. ]

So you were born with it, then?

At first I didn't really like the rule, but growing up in the middle of a magical war is more than enough to change your mind.

[ Especially considering her parents and their own lack of magic. ]

I was. I didn't find out the truth until I was eleven, though, and I was sent a letter inviting me to go to school.

[ cas isn't sure how he feels about that, whether or not people should be trusted with knowledge and power or kept in the dark like sheep in the herd, but that's philosophy for another time.

for now, he's more interested in her little story, here. ]

Wait - a letter? How'd they know about you if even your parents didn't?

There's a book that writes down the name of all magical children born, and the Headmaster can look at that and sent out letters when they turn eleven. Most muggles don't really believe in magic, so it's not difficult to not know your entire life.

[ She hums, considering. ]

There are signs, of course. I just to jump out of trees and never get hurt and my friend Harry used to regrow his hair after getting it cut.
