"I put a jar on the kitchen counter. We're working on it. But our crew is pretty small, and all of us were new except for Azula. We don't have much in the bank to begin with." A beat. "And Wolverine isn't exactly playing ball with the cooperative purchases..."

"Oh, ya made it onto the new ship?" Hmm. She gave a small smile and shook her head, "I don't think a jar's gonna do it."

"I've labeled it the swears and attitudes jar. Because the Blameless has a lot of people on board who do not live up to its name. Myself occasionally included."

[touchofrogue]

A scoff in the guise of a snort. "Ain't yet met someone who was."

"Sure, there's that."

Rogue shrugged. "Well, good luck with the whole 'swear jar' thing."

"--Thanks. I mean, I'm not a child. I know it's not gonna change hearts and minds. And what do I care if someone drops an f-bomb?" Kate shrugged, too. "But maybe out first proper upgrade will feel all the sweeter if it feels like we bought it together."

Sure, if she wanted to think like that, why not? "Whatcha gonna buy?"

"Something better than bunk-beds in a common room. We all need our privacy, I think."

"It ain't much right at first, but it gets better," she said, remembering back to early Vanquish days. "I spent a lot of time sleepin' on the shuttle right at first."

"Now, there's a thought." Kate shrugged. "I don't hate it. But I don't love it, that's for certain. I thought I'd seen the last of dorm living when I left boarding school."

"Very hoity toity," she said in response to boarding school. "Live an' make the best of it, I guess."

"Extremely hoity toity," Kate agreed. Her tone inhabited a strange middle-ground between deference and pride. She didn't feel like her education at St. Jude's, and then at Hawthorne, was worth a boast. But nor was she the sort of self-hating rich girl who thought it prudent to hide her privileges like some kind of dirty secret. Kate was Kate -- she made no apologies for it.

"But at least a lot fewer of my dorm-mates could probably get away with killing me in my sleep. There are some crazy well-skilled people in this place."

Rogue shrugged, "Guess when ya put it that way, ya traded up. Even if the food's not somethin' I'd like ta call food."

Oh, God. The food. I'm on a never-ending mission to recreate pizza. It's not going great."

"With protein paste?" Bleck. "Why would ya even bother?"

"We at least have some flour, so that's a place to start. It's the cheese and the toppings that are a bit of a challenge. Honestly? It's my job." She tapped her augment. "And I feel like I ought to at least try to experiment."

"Yeah, but pizza and protein paste... I'm guessin' your kitchen hasn't really gotten any mods yet either?"

Kate shook her head.

"We're about as basic as you can get -- barring whatever advantages come with our augments."
