[boy oh boy, isn't everyone just so excited to explore this... charming... place...?

this is a game-wide mingle and the timeframe isn't super-important, so throw in with whatever you want! play war games, go shopping for gas masks, get lost in the wilderness, hide up in the Iskaulit and refuse to set foot on the moon, anything goes.

She was definitely not doing well, and he was being very practical and very considerate and that just made her feel foolish on top of the tumult of anger and denial - she didn't want this to be happening, she just wanted this to stop happening...

Maybe she should go. She shifted forward, but hesitated as her stomach lurched. Rogue took a breath and slowly raised her head, glancing from him to the door. "Maybe I should go get some air."

Loki regarded her, reading her face closely. "I do not think that will help." Because she''d run, but there was no running fast enough. Or she'd hurt herself, which was no solution either. "Though all I can offer is the comfort of my company, if you will have it."

Rogue hesitated. She didn't really want to feel this way at all, let alone have him as a witness to it. But hadn't this been the brick and mortar of their relationship, deliberate decisions to trust the other with their pain, with their broken places? Silently, she held out a bare hand in invitation.

Loki took her hand and carefully sat next to her. He held his other arm out, a question of if she wanted to be any closer, since there'd been times when she hadn't reacted well to him just going in. There was still that gap in time between them, which made his reading of her far less certain.

Rogue simply curled her legs under her and leaned against him. As he shifted to invite her closer, she gave him her hand, permission to move her as close as he wished. She felt physically weak, as if her body had somehow atrophied around her as she sat, and she was trembling faintly.

Loki slid his arm around her and pulled her closer, lightly resting his chin on top of her head. He remained silent; there was little else he could say that would be at all honest in this case.

She continued to tremble against his side. It might have helped if Loki was warm, but he wasn't - he was pretty much always just room temperature. Instead, Rogue did her best to curl in on herself.

I don't know how to deal with this.

And after a while, she whispered: "...I don't know how to deal with this."

Loki fully wrapped his arms around her then, followed by working a bit of magic to make some warmth. He had to hope that would help. "I might be concerned if you did," he said after a moment. "This isn't the sort of situation one plans for." Not even him. "And even if such plans existed, they would not survive the reality."

"I'm not any good at plans anyway," she said. An old joke, a tried one, she was grasping at straws.

It was true - she wasn't any good at plans. She did, usually, have an excellent instinct for what to do when a situation presented itself. She had no idea what to do now. No idea. None. She just wanted it to go away.

How was she going to live in an enclosed area with -- that woman? Gawd, why did she even have to show up here?

"You do well enough," he said, smiling at her. Yes, an old joke indeed. "I think first you must decide what you want. One cannot plan without goal."

"What I want..." What she wanted wasn't possible. "...ain't possible."

She drew her legs up on the bed and tried to shift forward to press her forehead against her knees, to become as small as possible.

"I didn't say what was possible. I said what you want."

Because that was the first step, after all. Most impossible things weren't nearly that impossible. He stayed next to her, arms around her.

She knew exactly what she wanted. She also knew exactly what admitting it made her. She shrunk further into herself. After a moment, she muttered: "I just want this ta not be happening."

Loki nuzzled her hair. Yes, that was impossible in an absolute sense. But still. "I understand."

A quick, defensive flash of temper. She glanced up at him, "Do you?"

He considered the moment when he'd seen his skin turn blue. The time in Luceti he had told Rogue nakedly that he hated what was happening. The other naked moment when he wished desperately to be anywhere else, anyone else. The circumstances were not exact, but the emotion was still the same, the horror and turmoil that could not be escaped. "Yes," he said simply.

He'd never lied to her. She knew their lives had taken enough similar twists and turns that he may very well know what she meant from the inside.

She wished that wasn't the case - it would be cruel to fight him on this. She wanted to fight him. Well, no, not really, but she wanted to fight. Rogue hated feeling helpless and small. She searched his gaze for a long moment and then shut her eyes. A small sound like a wounded animal escaped her throat, at volume almost too low for human ears.

Loki simply held on to her. "It isn't at all fair," he said quietly.

He would happily do away with Mystique if he didn't know how opposed Rogue would be to it.

No, it really wasn't. Very few things had been fair in her life - you'd think she'd be used to it by now. She bit that thought back and for an indeterminate amount of time let him hold her.

It wasn't fair either, that she could be with the one that she loved when so many other people couldn't. So. There was that, too.

After a time she whispered, "Okay," and shifted to try to sit up.

Loki pressed a soft kiss against her temple as she straightened, like a wish and a blessing put together. "All right?" he asked. Not if she was all right--she obviously still was not--but if this moment were all right.

It hadn't been so long that she was unfamiliar with that question, and it tugged at her heart in a warm sort of way that was entirely welcome after the ice which had settled on it. "More or less."

Enough that she could move, anyway.

"I'm gonna think out loud at ya, alright?" A faint smile, "You can be my soundin' board."

"All right." He pressed another kiss against her temple. "I am prepared with a variety of mmmm and hmmm noises for your use."

In response to the kiss, Rogue gave him a faint smile, but it flickered and fell soon after. She began to pull away just so she could think a little more clearly. "It's not right ta just kill her," just... putting that out there. "An' I don't wanna do that. It made me miserable the first time, an' I don't see how this would help except ta just... get rid of her. If it even sticks here, which I don't know for sure either."

So. That was one option out.

He let her gain that distance this time, since he read it as not something so self-destructive. "Reason enough." There was the question about death. It certainly hadn't been permanent in Luceti. He wasn't going to volunteer to test it, though. "What do you want beyond... her going away?"
