Yep. I was set in a.. a sort of pattern for a long, long time. Might be hard to believe, but I used to act a lot like you do. Heh. Life's funny, sometimes.

[ Sometimes, Obi-Wan wonders what life would be like without Anakin. . . . But he never dwells on it. ]

It sounds more like someone changed your life.

Someone, and a lot of somethings. Some bad decisions. But, you know, what can you do, right?

Bad decisions. Free will is a bitch, and all that.

[ His brow creases. ] Have you never had it before?

[ err. cas laughs, a little nervously, raking a hand back through his messy hair. ]

Not for most of my life, no. Angels, and all that. Freedom isn't in the cards for us.

[ Is that what angels are leashed by? It doesn't follow what Anakin has told him about angels. Truth be told, he knows very little of their mythos. ]

I'm afraid all I know of angels is that they're meant to be very beautiful. Or so I've been told.

Heh, well I can't say I blame you. Angels are kind of assholes, I'm not a big fan of 'em either.

Perhaps I misspoke.

[ He pauses. ]

Angels are . . . deities. In their own right. At least, to some. Jedi don't hold to such concepts. For us, there is only the Force.

Right, I get it. Not that it matters, really, I'm pretty sure angels aren't around, in this dimension, not that I've heard from, at least. What about your Force? Is it still kicking around here?

[beardstrokes]

[ The question surprises Obi-Wan, but only for a second. ]

Of course. The Force is everywhere. It's in every living creature, always in motion.

[heavenonearth]

[ that earns a more thoughtful look, cas's brow drawing tighter. ]

Like God, I suppose. Everywhere, in everything, existing in all planes of time and space. Makes sense that some things might be fundamental across the board.

[beardstrokes]

[ He nods. The Jedi have been likened to a religious order before and that kind of connection isn't wrong. ]

No matter where I am, I'm always connected to the Force.

[ If it could translate, Obi-Wan is an angel in his own right. He moves with the will of the Force. His loyalty is unquestioned, his love is unparalleled. Even when the Force is taken from him, or when the Dark seeps its cold mask on his face, the Light never breaks. ]

[ there's surely something bittersweet in his hazy smile. ]

Sounds like a real comfort. That sort of conviction.

[ not that cas regrets it, really. there are things he's done that he would change if he could, absolutely, but all that loyalty.. that's gone for good. god left him behind, let all those people die. that's not something he'll ever forgive. but then, obi-wan's a far better jedi than cas ever was an angel. ]

I don't know. I've always been . . . touched by it.

[ Even now, with all that he knows, all that he has learned, leaving or deviating from the Order and the Light is anathema to him. The Force was no comfort when Cerasi died. Or Qui-Gon. It simply urged him forward.

Perhaps, Obi-Wan thinks to himself, the Force will not let him rest until the future of the Jedi is secure. As its teacher. As Luke's teacher. A poor teacher, but the only one left. ]

Mm. Yeah, I was too.

[ and making that decision to rebel, to turn away from god and heaven - it was like cutting off a limb, like jumping into an unknowable abyss. horrifying. against his very nature. he gets the feeling all too well. ]

But well, I'm glad it works for you. Feels good, being a part of something like that.

[ He smiles, but his heart isn't in it. It hasn't been for some time now. But it is no less real. ]

[ cas isn't sure he believes it, but then, he has a hard time believing in absolute obedience anymore, in general. but he's not about to tell obi-wan how to live his life, either, not when it, you know, turned out so disastrously for cas, anyway. ]

Well, fair enough.

[ It is one of the tenets of his heart. Absolute obedience. He was young once. Reckless. Obedience was his vow to the Force. ]

I doubt fairness has much to do with it. It is best to let the universe to decide.

[ there are about a hundred bitter, scathing retorts that cas could come back with, reflections of of broken heart, but it's not his place. besides, obi-wan's got a point he can't ignore. ]
