[boy oh boy, isn't everyone just so excited to explore this... charming... place...?

this is a game-wide mingle and the timeframe isn't super-important, so throw in with whatever you want! play war games, go shopping for gas masks, get lost in the wilderness, hide up in the Iskaulit and refuse to set foot on the moon, anything goes.

here's the main event info post for reference! have fun!]

I'm not really that kind of person, you know.

[ It is said with a wry smile, though, even as she tilts her head, as if listening. ]

I can't smell anything nearby, at least. Maybe they heard us coming and ran in the other direction? Hopefully we won't have to do any fighting.
grandstanding: (How terribly gauche)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-04-09 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Smell...? Maybe the lioness aspect extends beyond the form.] I'd be surprised if you could smell anything through that mask to start with.

Well, that is why I'm out here instead of in the city. [He had enough of war games on day one.] If it happens, though, it happens.
brainiest: (he ate all the smores)

[personal profile] brainiest 2016-04-09 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm doing my best. It is quite limiting, though, you're right. [ It's enough to give her a bit of a warning, at least - and it's not all because of the lioness. Having a minor werewolf curse does that to you too.

Still, she huffs in agreement. ]
That's a complete load of nonsense, now, isn't it? As if we want to come to a planet just to fight. I'm sure half of us have had enough of that in our own worlds.
grandstanding: (We'll always have Paris)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-04-10 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
Having enough of it rarely means you're done, though. [He never will be. Their path continues to rise, the trees and twisted shrubs around them starting to thin.]

I don't intend to fight here unless it's necessary.
brainiest: (sunshine daisies)

[personal profile] brainiest 2016-04-10 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
No, I suppose you're right. I had enough of the war when I was sixteen but it didn't end for years. [ And it still hurts, somewhere deep inside of her, and all she can do is shove herself forward and climb up, putting her hand against the trees. ]

From what I've heard there's not been a lot of fighting, but it's better to be prepared.
grandstanding: (I read your thesis and it sucked)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-04-10 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
[The mention of her age doesn't phase him much. He had brought young people near her age into war before. Most of them were dead, now. Ghosts of failure. He does glance over at her next comment.]

Just because there hasn't been, doesn't mean there won't. Even if it doesn't come from the outside, there could be divisive elements among us. [It's a strong statement, for all that he doesn't think about that possibility much. The threat is more likely to come from one of these planets, or the Atroma.]
brainiest: (how are you doing that)

[personal profile] brainiest 2016-04-10 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
No, you're right. I wish Atroma hadn't taken my swords - I feel a little naked without them. [ Both of them. The rapier and the blade Leo had made her, both of them important to her, and her daggers... She had learned to use them, not entirely through choice, and now she felt a little barren. ]

I'm sure I could buy something, somewhere, though.
grandstanding: (Waffle on the ceiling.)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-04-10 11:06 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't buy anything here, at least. It would probably be tainted.

[His sword, well... it was likely still above the mantelpiece in his office, where he'd left it. He wasn't in the habit of carrying weapons, as he didn't need them to be one. Times like this, though, he misses his hunting knife. The next available knife seller, he'd replace it.]

So that magic you did the other day-- you can't make something like a knife that way?
brainiest: (is it gone)

[personal profile] brainiest 2016-04-10 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, definitely not here. I'm not risking my life and my crewmates lives just for a sword.

[ She just misses her own things. The rapier was a symbol of her failure and her strength after that, a gift from a woman that had taught her so much. The sword was a gift from Leo, handcrafted, and she just... Misses them. ]

I could, I suppose, but I'd need something to make it out of. I can't transform anything into anything, I need... Parts, sort of. Transfiguration has to be equal either side.
grandstanding: (You won't stand in my way)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-04-10 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
[He considers that, turning it over in his mind.] Since swords are quite dense, you would likely need a lot of material, then.

[The hill they're climbing is reaching its peak. Erik stops when they finally make it to the top, casting his gaze out over the hazy woods, and distant shapes of oil rigs. It's not a pretty view, even if he wasn't expecting to find one. His eyes narrow slightly, taking it in.]
brainiest: (that's my business)

[personal profile] brainiest 2016-04-10 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I'd need the steel, any iron, I suppose, and then it would take time to sit and use my magic. I'm not sure if it's something I can even do alone - I've never made a sword before.

[ Matchsticks into pins? Sure. Hedgehogs to pincushions? Fine. Swords? A little more complex.

She steps up and over the edge of the hill, frowning at what she sees. Arms crossed, she huffs a noise. ]

Lovely.
grandstanding: (Sounds like a volvo with a gunrack)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-04-10 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
It's hideous. [This moon is the worst.]

I haven't made a sword, but I've used forges to make other things. [He tips his head towards her slightly, with a sardonic twist to his tone.] I was always able to speed that process along through my power.

I can't wait until we get to the next station.

[ But, of course, she's hooked straight into his words. ]

Of course! That's amazing - it must feel incredible as well. I can't even imagine how much control that sort of work must take. Wow.
grandstanding: (I can't stand this indecision)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-04-10 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
It's certainly more fine-tuned than just moving things around. [At the time he used a forge, it was also safer for him, his control over his power too skittery to manage much.] It's also very hot work, using a forge.
brainiest: (you + me = us)

[personal profile] brainiest 2016-04-10 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, it must be, but I suppose it suited you. [ Wait. ] Working with metal, I mean.
grandstanding: (The heart of this town has grown cold.)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-04-11 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Heh. The smile can't be seen, but it can be heard.]

Indeed it did, and does. A sword would be an interesting project. [Not that he doesn't already have a weapon project underway.]
brainiest: (bee movie)

[personal profile] brainiest 2016-04-11 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She tilts her head, stepping up to look at him properly. ]

Is that an - offer, or a suggestion, or...?
grandstanding: (Erm.)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-04-12 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
At the moment it's a thought, nothing else. I've owned a sword; I know what they're like. [Even if he's never actually fought with it. One day, he'll need to ask Adelina about swordplay lessons.] Making something like that is a little more complicated than fusing metal together.
brainiest: (bee movie)

[personal profile] brainiest 2016-04-15 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I miss my rapier most. It came with this. [ Her finger draws along her scar, hesitating for a moment before she breathes out. ] Maybe the best thing to do for now is get my hands on a wooden sword and keep up practice with that. I don't think Atroma can take that away from me.
grandstanding: (Don't do what you'll regret)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-04-16 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
[He follows the line her finger traces, along the scar. They all have stories behind them, personal ones. The tracework he could make across his own body would fill a book or two.]

It's a start. I'm not sure if anyone else has access to things like that here. My friend mentioned wanting a sword back as well, I don't know if she's made any progress on that.

I'd suggest culling some wood here to shape, but I'm sure it's all poisonous. [Like everything else on this godforsaken rock.]
brainiest: (still got it)

[personal profile] brainiest 2016-04-17 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Scars are forever - mostly. The one on her arm might have been healed by Ben, taken away, but she can still see the faint white lines against her forearm, just as she can feel the metallic nudge in the one on her face, the werewolf bites that stretch her skin and feel like they're blistering. Everything tells a story, and she feels old far too young because of hers. ]

I could try and make one, maybe... Wood is much easier than all the different kinds of metal you'd need for a real sword, and I could always cut it down to size or use it as more of a stick than anything else. It's a simple solution for now.

[ She frowns, arms crossed as she looks around the woods, nose wrinkling. ]

I'd rather not kill anyone, thank you very much.
grandstanding: (I can't stand this indecision)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-04-18 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yes... a poison sword would do that. [A novel idea, though.] Have you ever used spears?
brainiest: (still got it)

[personal profile] brainiest 2016-04-18 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Not my cup of tea. [ She huffs, and gives him a Look. Don't you get any ideas. ] Spears... No, but that does seem like the next step. I don't think I knew anyone that was good at using a spear in the Drabwurld, so that might be why.
grandstanding: (Sounds like a volvo with a gunrack)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-04-19 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
Admittedly, I haven't used one for combat. But I have made use of them while hunting and fishing. They would be easier to make, at least for the business end of it. [A spearhead might be an interesting challenge, to somehow make himself. He could find the flaws in it much easier than making a much larger item like a sword.]

Annoying to carry around, though. [Not very subtle, either.]
brainiest: (one more time)

[personal profile] brainiest 2016-04-19 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
You make it sound so easy and casual, you know. 'Oh, I used a spear to hunt and fish even if it was a pain in the backside.'

[ Hermione huffs a laugh, shaking her head and turning her gaze back to Erik with a small smile. ]

I bet I could use a potion to make me able to throw it further, though.
