That's good! The majority of your population is still alive. You'll get there. I... don't remember when the colonies started, but you might get to see it. [History is really hard when you can't really remember anything before your seventeenth birthday.]

What's your favorite thing about Earth?

[ That was a hard question. He took a lot of things on Earth for granted, and even when he parted from it, he always assumed it would be still there. ]

I don't know for sure. I've never given it much thought. I've always liked my gardens.

Gardens are so neat! I wanted to try to have a garden when I got my house. I just... didn't have time for it. Like figuring out how to make it work with the back and all. But growing things... that's such a beautiful thing to do.

I liked sunsets best about Zeus. Before the dome closed.

Can't you do it on the Iskaulit? They do have nice gardens there, albeit artificially maintained.

It'd be really cool. I'm supposed to be taking it easy right now, til Dr. Crusher fixes my back, but after that maybe I can! There's so much cool stuff over on the Iskaulit now... I've got my mural, but I haven't gotten to work on it in a while.

I'd be happy to help you with it, though I'm afraid my abilities in that area are limited.

[Oh my god this is so exciting! The thought that Charles could be bullshitting her simply doesn't even cross her mind; when she's not in uniform, not under orders, she's the most trusting person in the world.]

[She scrunches her face slightly as she tries to think of something, though of course, the minute she's supposed to think of a nebulous something, her mind pretty much goes blank. So she grasps for the one simple constant that's always present in her mind--the orange sunset that never ends, the most important thing in her world even if she has no idea why. The city with its partially built dome behind, the shattered landscape of the Line stretching out in all directions, rendered beautiful in this one, perfect moment.]

[Her new friend is the coolest ever except maybe Vision, because he can fly. But Charles is super awesome in his own way.]

Explaining how is trickier. It's like . . . looking for a book in a library. You just have to pick the right one.

I guess that makes sense? I don't think I ever went to the library. [Ugh, she feels stupid saying that. She knows Proles had a few libraries, but it was mostly network stuff. And she doesn't read much.]

Were you born able to do that, or did you learn how to do it? [Even if it's something you could learn, she doubts she could, but it's just such an interesting thought.]

I was born with it, though it did not manifest until I was nine.

What was it like, then, when you were nine?

. . . Probably not as pleasant as you might think.
