[Shinji isn't particularly enthused about meeting with the local fauna of this disgusting moon. Especially when he's lost. Especially when he's pretty sure he has a rock stuck in his shoe. But...

But at the same time, some animal tracks are interesting. They're new and mysterious. There wasn't a lot of wildlife where he's from, and he didn't get to go exploring in the forests (when they existed), anyway. He's resistant to the idea for all of five seconds before he says,] Yelling like that's just going to scare it away. It probably hasn't seen many people out here.

[Shinji decides to let Anakin take the lead, just in case it's a mutated tentacle monster or something.]

[ he's going to ignore that - negative points for you, shinji. he does, however, make sure his steps are more on the quiet side.

tracking has never been his favourite activity, but he has fond memories of doing it. he keeps his ears open and his senses sharp. the Force isn't much help at this range but he can tell there is something out there. life is all around them despite the radiation and pollution. and friendly or not, he has a feeling they'll find it. ]

I don't know. I'm surprise anything can live here.

[ he steps through puddles and sweeps aside overgrown bushes. a long slithering reptile with way too many legs slithers by in front of him and he instinctively holds shinji's back with a hand. ]

Don't worry, I think it just ate. [ he gestures at the lump at the mid-section of the beast ] But definitely not what we're looking for.

[In the whole of time and space, Shinji is a negative point. That's how he feels, anyway. He feels like the negative outlier on what's otherwise the smooth, upward-trending curve of life. But Anakin saw fit to drag him out of his cloud of depression and into something that, at the very least, is getting his heart rate going. Shinji has no idea what's lurking behind those bushes. He braces himself for the worst...

And then...

... uh...]

I-I don't think anything's supposed to have that many legs.

[He's losing some color in his face. This lizard has a very unnatural gait that makes Shinji's skin crawl. Honestly, it reminds him of--]

But that's not even the weirdest alien I've seen.

[ He gives a wry chuckle. It's not a comfortable sight, but it's no more strange than any other alien species he's come across. Just as long as they don't bother it, it won't bother them. That he learned from experience. ]

It's just trying to get by. With its way too many legs.

[ Anakin takes a step forward and snaps a twig in half. They lock eyes with the reptile for a moment before it continues on its way. Anakin drops his hand from his makeshift lightsaber and turns back to Shinji. ]

See, nothing to worry about. What were you saying about weird aliens?

[Shinji doesn't know all that much about close-range combat, other than stabbing things with a knife in extreme desperation. Still, he recognizes Anakin's stance as something battleworthy, and it's... well, it's pretty cool. It makes him feel better about being in the middle of a polluted, monster-infested forest.]

Oh, uh... [An uneasy smile, then.] I once fought a giant salamander-looking thing with dozens of skeletal legs all going everywhere.

[... he says it like he's completely serious, not just fibbing in the way of an attention-seeking teenager.]

It was gross.

[ A giant salamander thing. Sounds like a lot of things could be that in the galaxy. Anakin chuckles at the response and reaches a hand out to pat Shinji on the shoulder. ]

I'm not sure about your salamander creature, but that thing? It probably thinks we're gross.

[ He perks in interest; he's never been one to not poke the bear but now that he has another teenager following him...

Nah. ]

[Shinji wrinkles his nose, hearing that. It's like that old adage about creepy-crawly insects being more scared of people than people are of them. Or something.]

--Follow it? [His tone has that what, are you crazy? quality to it, even though he looks in the direction the reptile has gone. Lately, he's been feeling kind of self-destructive, in need of danger and adrenaline. Also, he's bored. Also, they haven't seen anything even remotely as interesting in all their time in the forest.] Mm... as long as we're not making it mad... oh, jeez, what if it has a burrow somewhere? Now that would be awesome.

[ He wouldn't endanger the teen with his usual brand of recklessness, and bothering a creepy-crawly a size of a full grown human isn't usually his thing anyway. As he steps through the marsh, he toss an assuring smile and shrug back ]

We're observing the wildlife.

[ The way he sees it, it's a reverence for life. ]

What's the point of being trapped on a galaxy wide tour if you can't see all that it has to offer?
