first one to make that doctor who joke loses
Who: Everyone! All of you!
Broadcast: Maybe!
Action: Definitely!
When: Anytime during the toxic moon event!
---
[boy oh boy, isn't everyone just so excited to explore this... charming... place...?
this is a game-wide mingle and the timeframe isn't super-important, so throw in with whatever you want! play war games, go shopping for gas masks, get lost in the wilderness, hide up in the Iskaulit and refuse to set foot on the moon, anything goes.
here's the main event info post for reference! have fun!]

There are usually only two reasons to record history. One is vanity - the hope that people who you will never know will remember you or your deeds in some way. I would have said they were beyond that, but it's clear they find time for vanity in their own way. The second is to make certain the past is remembered so that others may learn from it.
I'm not sure they could do any more damage to this planet than they have already, but I can understand how they would not wish to try.

His mouth twitches at the last comment, almost stretched thin in a hard line. ]
Oh, there could be worse. Trust me. But hopefully they never get there.
Maybe this place is just meant to be colorful since the rest of their planet has been practically leeched of it.

[Kirk, however, seems to have a better grasp about these things, and it's said in a way that it can be taken as a question.]

[ He shook his head, his brow creased ever so slightly in frustration on that point. ]
It may be that things just spiraled out of control, or that they didn't notice before it was to late. The machinery could have malfunctioned. I don't see them having done this on purpose, to say the least.

[He gestures around them]
...this speaks of hope. And hope is incongruous with suicide.

Hope. I can see that. And a reminder for the future not to repeat their mistakes. It makes me wonder about their original culture though - the one they came from. Is any of this representative of it? Or are they making something new? Did they leave because they are so different from the major one on their home planet?

They might have one, especially if they have a museum. But it might not be what you expect. If I was a colonizing world, I would store that sort of thing as data, not physical books.

I find myself unable to quell my disappointment in that fact, even if I understand the reasons.

[ He grins. ]
I understand. On my ship, I kept physical books as well. I think it baffled my officers.

Where I am from, physical books are a rarity. They take up unnecessary space, for one, and most media is released via digital means now. Easier to disseminate too.
