[He stops, tries to find the words for it, and is quickly reminded of his conversation with Felix. What do you like to do for fun? He asked, and Max thought he was crazy, too. Because fun is not helpful. Fun is not useful in the long run. Max has not indulged in something that felt fun since... he can't remember. But it's simply not in his vocabulary. Except, perhaps, in the sense that other people tell him he's no fun.

Which he doesn't want to be. Fun is not going to get you anywhere.

He huffs.]

Perhaps I take pride in my reluctance to compromise, hm? There are times to move -- and there are times to keep your feet planted firmly. Stubbornness can be a virtue.
