[Y'all, Misty can't be the only one who hates this place, so let's all gather on the Iskaulit, safe from all that dark and rot down on the polluted moon and have ourselves a good time!

(Or at least, a pollution-free time).

[Mind control would be a huge issue for her. Mind reading...she's been fine with it in the past at least.] Probably a good policy. [He'd be the expert.] Is it hard not to pick up stray thoughts?

Oh, those happen. I cannot fully tune it out. But I usually keep it to myself.

What if they're really funny? [Just giving him a smile.]

[ He smiles, despite himself. He's never liked this topic of conversation. Bringing up his telepathy, having to deal with the suspicion and paranoia that follows. ]

Then it would have to be quality material.

[For someone from the darkest timeline there is an almost shocking lack of suspicion and paranoia here. She used to mind talk with the other Charles frequently and before that she's had Jean and Rogue in her mind though in different ways. She was used to him picking things up from her. He didn't use any of it against her, and she's always been honest. Open can be another story. There are some things she's more likely to let out in an effort to desensitize herself to them or push others away and sometimes to bond.]

The Charles I knew before did more peeking I think. I know you aren't him though. Even if you are him, you're not. [She pauses, smiling.] These places really inspire some special sentences.

Don't worry, it's not the strangest one I've heard.

[ He pauses briefly. ]

Telepaths don't inspire a lot of trust. And I rather not confirm someone's suspicions of my behavior and powers.

I can understand that. For me it's more about what you do with the information once you have it. Being a telepath is a natural part of who you are. I don't like feeling like I need to hide my phasing from people to be accepted. I don't ask people to do the same for me. But I'll grant you reaching into someone's head is a liiiiittle bit more invasive. [Or a lot, sure.]

We also had fewer telepaths around back home. They were a particular target of Apocalypse's.

That doesn't surprise me.

[ Leaving a telepath alive would be a liability to anyone's forces. ]

Should I go for surprising instead?

You can certainly give it a shot, but I can't guarantee it'll get very far.

Wow, a challenge. Brave. [She's probably not actually accepting this as a challenge.]

I'm certainly not lacking in bravery. Or stubbornness.

Yeah? I feel like a few people have described me that way. [They might have said stubborn more than brave but brave was a given for X-Men, right?] You think you can just steal my thing since you're older and have been doing it longer? [Teasing, of course.]

I think it's a fairly common descriptor for many, many mutants.

[ Like Erik. Or Logan. ]

But yes, I do in fact, get to steal the thing because it is actually my thing.

You were the inventor of the thing? The X-Men and combining bravery with stubbornness like peanut butter and jelly?

Considering I stuck with that name, I'll have to say yes.

Fine. I'll give it to you, but only because I feel sorry about the whole you being incredibly dead back where I'm from.

If you don't mind me asking - how did I die?

From what I understand a powerful, time-displaced man was trying to kill Erik and you blocked the shot and saved his life. [A lot of the details like "he was your son" never made their way to her.] According to Bishop that's when everything went wrong.

[ . . . That sounds about right. ]

Just with my death?

[She makes a dismissive gesture.] It was the butterfly that flapped its wings. Thanks a lot? [She holds none of it against him. Not this Charles or any other.]

[ He nods. ]

Of course.

Only Erik was there to know all the details. When he did talk about you, it was usually more about what kind of person you were and your dream. Not the circumstances of your death. You were more than that to him.

[ He swallows. ]

I had often wondered how he would . . . take that. I guess I know. Or had always known.

Why are you wondering about your death? And often.
