These masks continue to be a pain in the ass, huh?

But I guess the alternative is being laid up in bed sick — which I don't recommend, in case you're feeling brave, because seeing the people who took off their masks isn't inspiring any faith here. As for me, I'm needing a little break from travelling around down there in all that questionable toxin. Not exactly my cup of coffee, you know? Prefer more open roads, more green and, uh. An ocean I can smell and not go into coughing fits over.

Maybe I'll just spitball some stuff to pass the time while I question what I'm eating from these kitchens? I'm feeling nosy. Call it an acquired skill set, being nosy. Back in the other place I was trapped in, I mostly gathered information about our bestiary; monsters from all kinds of worlds would fall into the world with us, and I did my fair share of fighting some pretty rough creatures. Including the killer rabbits that would try to sabotage my garden. They're small, fast, and aim for the jugular, FYI.

Anyway, pick a number, any number —

I figure I'm being totally transparent, but I'm a big fan of information gathering. But it's also... actually really nice to be in one place long enough to get to know people. How often do you have the chance to learn about alternate universes? Small pluses.

5. Magic is entirely fictional in my world. We have a lot of technology we don't understand that seems like magic, but there's always some sort of scientific explanation behind it.

I can't even imagine. I mean... I guess I could have when I was eight. Ever since I learned about what's out there, it's always been crazy to me that so many people in my world weren't aware of what's out there.

Magic is fictional, but what about... ghosts?

No ghosts, either. I'm perfectly willing to concede that people might just not be looking hard enough, though. I'm science-minded, but I'm not willing to dismiss evidence of the supernatural, either.

Exactly.

It can vary from person to person- I personally believe in them, but others don't. Souls are a big part of some religious traditions.

Hard to not believe in them, these days. It's weird to think other worlds might not have them at all — where I'm from, they're the person's true essence. Who they are, as a person. With the right magic, they're as easy to put in a jar as a caterpillar. And are apparently easier to lose track of than I thought.

... Wait, you can put someone's soul IN A JAR? I'd think that'd make it... well, it'd kill a person to do that.

Bodies without souls are... still people -- they have memories, can still carry on, but there's a lot missing. They're prone to violence and murderous tendencies, because they don't have a conscious. A little voice in their head making them more human.

It's not exactly pleasant; I was soulless for a little while, and I gotta say, I don't recommend it.

But there's enough distance between then and now. It's not as painful to talk about.]

No, that doesn't sound like a good experience at all. We haven't proven the existence of souls where I come from, but every time you read about someone being soulless in fiction, it's never a good thing.

If you ever see any wayward balls of light floating around, you should definitely give me a call so we can figure out how to put that back. In whoever it belongs to.

Gotcha. I mean, I would HOPE that Atroma wouldn't take us calling our existence here "soul-sucking" literally and remove our souls, but you never know with them.

Considering the last place I was stuck in had some soul-removal involved at a few points there, I'd say it's better safe and paranoid than sorry.
