These masks continue to be a pain in the ass, huh?

But I guess the alternative is being laid up in bed sick — which I don't recommend, in case you're feeling brave, because seeing the people who took off their masks isn't inspiring any faith here. As for me, I'm needing a little break from travelling around down there in all that questionable toxin. Not exactly my cup of coffee, you know? Prefer more open roads, more green and, uh. An ocean I can smell and not go into coughing fits over.

Maybe I'll just spitball some stuff to pass the time while I question what I'm eating from these kitchens? I'm feeling nosy. Call it an acquired skill set, being nosy. Back in the other place I was trapped in, I mostly gathered information about our bestiary; monsters from all kinds of worlds would fall into the world with us, and I did my fair share of fighting some pretty rough creatures. Including the killer rabbits that would try to sabotage my garden. They're small, fast, and aim for the jugular, FYI.

Anyway, pick a number, any number —

1. Favorite fairy tale, ghost story, or piece of folklore.
2. Favorite thing about the other worlds you've been to? (Least favorite, too, if you're feeling like getting it off your chest? I'm a crappy psychiatrist, fair warning.)
3. Ever run into people who know you from a book, movie, or game? Or, uh... manga?
4. War games — which do you prefer, and why?
5. Magic in your world: real or fiction?

I figure I'm being totally transparent, but I'm a big fan of information gathering. But it's also... actually really nice to be in one place long enough to get to know people. How often do you have the chance to learn about alternate universes? Small pluses.

I'm gonna go with two! What I like the most about this is all the technology. I have to admit, I'm kind of grateful for the augments even if it still makes my friends nervous, just because if I didn't have it I would be so lost. We don't have anything like what's here back home.

I mean, look at what we're doing now! We're communicating instantly! Across such great distances! It's amazing!

Oh gosh, nothing like this. We had ships but they only sailed on the sea; I didn't even know it was possible to go up to the stars! I mean, maybe I thought about what it might be like, but there was so much to deal with on land that I don't think anybody really had the time to think about it like I did.

That's so hard to imagine. I mean, couldn't it just be that the universe is round too? Maybe we're just all living on the surface of the universe, but it's so huge and vast that even when we move up or down or right or left or forward or backward, it's all still within the space of the surface.

Whew. That's so incomprehensible. Never being able to understand the sheer size of it! I mean, all these maps and nobody's ever been able to assemble a map of the universe. All this knowledge and we're still falling short. Maybe I should be frustrated, but more than anything it's kind of exciting!

Right. There is that.

It's easier to handle if you're with people from home, I think. It's easier to reason that you'll find a way back if you have people to go back home with. Got anybody here like that?

When you say another timeline, you mean someone from your future that you haven't met yet? Or...maybe someone who's passed away? [Sorey's got one of those. He's being clingy. He is trying real hard not to be clingy.]

Oh wow. I-I think so, I just didn't know that was something that could happen. I thought decisions were made and that's it. Gosh. Does that happen all the time, and none of us know about it? Oh my gosh. I'm going to have to look into this.

-sorry! Uh, yes, that makes sense. I'm sorry to hear the people here aren't the ones you're familiar with though. Sometimes that can be just as hard, having people who don't quite know you like they used to. Are you holding up okay?

You've got a point. No use worrying about it right now.

It would be nice to figure everything out eventually, but I suppose we have to content ourselves with just getting by and hopefully getting back home. It just feels so weird to leave it up to fate without actually doing anything. [Kid's used to being led around to places at least.]

That's true. [If they can cram knowledge in, there's no reason they can't also take knowledge out.] Keeping physical logs is the obvious next step, but with all of our movements watched and our communication being monitored, it'll be hard to hide anything without anyone finding out.
