[That wonderful open broadcast Marsiva offers will catch the newest shipmate as she wakes. And it is every bit as dramatic as could be hoped. She sat bolt up and rolled immediately out of the bunk she'd been resting in, coming to a crouch. with her back to the nearest wall.]

Zhaan? D'Ago? Crichton?

[She was dressed in a gray suit that looked quilted or insulated, white piping having a near glow to it. But the way she fussed at the high collar indicated she was not familiar with the garment.]

Where am I? What is this place? Chiana of you or Rygel have sold us out... [The near threat fell from her lips without conviction.]

Where am I then? What is this place besides The Marsiva? WHo runs this fleet? [Old paranoia dies hard. ]

I fear I know as little as you - I arrived myself in similar circumstances not more than a week ago. All I can tell you is that you wake on the Marsiva, which is a ship sailing between the stars, surrounded by smaller ships - in a few days, you will likely be sent to one of them, and there you will remain.

I am used to starships, I used to fly them. But I don't know this place. Sadly that is another circumstance I am familiar with.

What is your name? I prefer to know who I get information from.

People have been very kind in helping me already, I assume you have had the same? It makes adjusting to new places all the easier.

[So says the woman who is adjusting because she thinks she might just still be dead.]

It would be a first for me, I'm a soldier and not used to being seen many other ways.

I just try to work hard and do a good job no matter what I'm doing. But this is also... like a lot nicer than where I'm from. I'm the first mate on the Windrose and I run security there. And Dr. Crusher's gonna fix up my back soon so that's even better.

I've been placed in Security as well, I have no idea why I'm not a pilot. I've spent more arns in a Prowler than most of the Peacekeeprs I knew.

You are injured? Did it happen here, I haven't heard anyone say this place was dangerous yet.

I'm afraid I don't know anyone by those names here, but I can assure you, no one has sold you out. You've been kidnapped, along with the rest of us, and brought to a different universe supposedly to serve as entertainment for an alien species none of us have ever seen.

If Crichton was hee, you would know. I dislike being held against my will, but I like being entertainment for someone else even less. Why is it so few species can fight outright? [Things were so much easier when they were direct.]

I don't think Atroma is using this as any sort of... War tactic. It's more like we're lab animals to them.

Experiments? [Aeryn could not suppress a shudder, a flash of memories and the chill of how she'd been used in an attempt to further provide DNA for a mad scientist.]

[Her jaw thrusts forward ever so slightly and she lifts her head in defiance. It’s nothing new, really, a fresh arrival who thinks the rest of them have just rolled over for Atroma, but that doesn’t make it any less aggravating to hear.]

Hardly. As you said, not all species are direct in their confrontations - we cannot fight them through traditional means, especially as we have never even seen them. We don’t know where they are or how many there are or even what they look like, only what they call themselves: Atroma.

[That reaction gained her a smile, it meant there was spirit and there was strength of conviction. People who reacted like that had not given up, they just needed a push to show it under the strained regimine they'd undertaken. She'd seen it in all of them on Moya. These weren't people taking orders, these were people bidding their time and making the best of things.]

You're welcome. It's... easy to get defensive about this sort of thing, especially as I have been here for over a year now. Believe me, if I'd found a way home, I'd be there now.

I spent time aboard a prison ship, we had no audience but we had to find a way to make that life our own until we could make it something else. I understand how difficult that can be and how it changes you.

A year.. oh, a cycle. That's a long time if you have a home you are used to.
