[ The video flickers on to Leto sitting on his bed, kicking his legs briefly. He grins when the video starts recording, pushing himself onto his feet. He tilts his head, that odd bird-like movement he often exhibits. ]

I have heard some interesting things of late, so I thought I'd put the question to you all. When you fall in love, can you only love one person? Can you fall in love with multiple people? Is love something you find yourself stopping after just one?

[ There's quiet, for a long moment, before - ]

I do not understand.

Who are you?

Do you only want to be a creature that survives or something more? Carve your name into the world that you are in. Be remembered. Be unique to someone's life. Be Lauralae.

I am nothing.

[ She shifts, and there's the sound of her body dropping - and she's curled around herself, whispering into the device. ]

I was unique to someone, but she is dead and gone. I am content with that. Why should I fight that course?

Because you do not sound like someone who is content. You sound like someone who cannot see a way out.

There is none. [ Because she feels like she is trapped, she feels broken and bitter and twisted. ] How will I make it so here?

Give it meaning, and I believe you can make it more than this.

[ He cannot tell her what to do. Still, his heart goes out for her - this young, trapped girl. This could be him, eventually. Give or take five or six centuries of loneliness and metamorphosis of the body and soul. ]

[ She is only eighty-two, but she feels as though she has lived three lives - before, during and after. Before the curse, during her self-inflicted loneliness and after the loss of her adoptive mother. It aches deep inside of her. ]

It sounds so simple in such short words.

The simplest things can be the hardest to accomplish.

[ But he smiles at her, like she's beautiful and unique. A sandworm in the desert, claws and the skin of loneliness. ]

But I believe you can.

Some might say impossible.

[ Lauralae closes her eyes and curls around herself, face pressed into her arm, voice a mumble. ]

And you do not know me.

How can I? You will not let anyone know you.

None have wished to know me.

Then let me know you.

[ There's a long, long pause, drawn out and tense, before she hisses and bites down on her lip, hard enough to hurt. ]

Why?

[ He tilts his head, thoughtful. ]

Because I want to.

And someone should remember you. The way you want to be remembered.

[ To be remembered. Not as a monster, but as herself, to be known simply as Lauralae and not witch, or demon, or creature. ]

You want to. [ Swallowing, she pushes the pieces of herself back together before she responds. ] As you say.

[ Gently. ] I do.

So the question now is; will you let me?

I will. [ Not because she feels as though she doesn't have a choice, but because she has a choice. She can choose to have this man in her life or to reject him. It is strange to think it. ]

[ He smiles, his eyes crinkling. He looks younger than he is. ]

We can continue this face to face if you prefer.

[ That brings out a tense moment of silence and she has to force herself to speak through the block in the throat. ]

So long as we do not touch, or get close enough for it.

If you are worried, you need not be. You cannot hurt me.

But I shall respect your wishes. Shall I see you on the Starstruck?

Yes. [ Her voice is a little more hoarse, now, but she repeats herself still. ] Yes, we shall meet.

Wait for me.

[ He words it like a promise, to reassure her that he's not going to leave her alone. After that, the connection closes as he makes his way to one of the shuttles. ]

[ And she does wait. True, she makes her way down towards where the shuttles dock, but she waits all the same, a quiet shadow in the background near the doors, the only thing really letting on where she stands being the brightness of her eyes. ]

[ As he approaches the shuttle dock, Lauralae can probably see the wormskin more clearly, like mottled leeches, linked together around his face and hands. His eyes briefly light up when they spot her and he seems to hold no fear or apprehension. ]

We meet at last, Lauralae.

[ Lauralae gazes at him, intense and sure, almost dangerous, before she steps out of the shadows. He isn't afraid to look upon her, and something in her chest catches at that - people here are not afraid of her, true, but at the same time she still expected the worst. ]
