[The video starts in on Hiro, who is reclined as far as the console chair will go. His feet are likely somewhere they should not be, holding him in the position. The comm is on top of his knees, recording him playing with an ostrich bobblehead.

[After a moment, he grins at the comm, and begins his little speech.]

Good--[a quick glance at the console]--afternoon, space cadets. Engineer Hiro Hamada, reporting for duty on the SS Bishop.

Gotta say, I'm not exactly thrilled to be here, but hey. I don't get a choice, right?

[He takes in a deep breath, looking around the deck of the ship. He lets his cheeks puff up with the air, slowly deflating as his lungs empty.]

I hope the crew here doesn't mind some remodeling. This place could use some work.

Of course! My family and my ancestors have been ninja for hundreds of years.

Really?! Wow... I can't believe I'm meeting a real live ninja.

We have a pretty wide variety of people and not-so-much-people in the Fleet. Ninja is probably far from the most impressive thing.

[ But you know. She's totally not preening or anything. ]

Are you kidding? Look, aliens in the movies and the books, they're whatever. It's a big universe, those can exist, people debate it all the time. Ninja with the skills and the moves and all the bells and whistles? Where I come from, those are comic characters, strictly. Ninja existed once, in my world, but they were just fast, quiet assassins.

What about things like demons, angels, fairies? Elves and dwarves?

... We have those?

[what.]

Most of them, but I've met all of them at some point.

[He doesn't even know what to say. You have blown his mind, Ino. He's just kind of gaping at the camera.]

[ a little grin, at that look ]

Some advice? Just operate on the notion that anything and everything you can imagine -- and probably even some stuff you couldn't -- is possible and exists. It'll save you the headache later.

... Oh, man, I wish I could show--...

[Hiro goes dead silent, very suddenly. There's processing behind his eyes, and then he shakes his head.]

Never mind. I'm overloading here, this is sick.

[ She blinks, but ... a reassuring smile ]

It's a lot to take in. But you'll be used to it in no time, I'm sure.

Man, I hope not. I don't want the magic to die out.

[The energy's coming back.]

There's so much to learn here, this is gonna be such a great experience. Are there any blank notebooks around?

[ a pause. ]

You know, I'm actually not sure. Most people just use the communicators, I think, but there might be a place at the next planet we stop at to buy something like it.

Awesome. I'm gonna have to earn enough to get a few by then. I don't have my computers, I have to have somewhere to draw out my ideas.

[plus he has to have a journal okay he's used to it]

I'm sure you'll have plenty to spend.

[ You're adorable as fuck, there's no way your ratings will be low ]
