[Kitty spends a lot of her time on the bridge piloting reading. She has a new book every day or two—always non-fiction, usually science, and often something about stars or engineering.

She still favors the gym on the Iskaulit, but she's been making some use of the new recreation area they just upgraded to in the cargo hold. It's also not hard to find her pretty much anywhere else because when she's idle long she'll go looking for someone to talk to whether it's on the network while wandering the ship aimlessly or in person.

You may also notice her looking a little happier in general now that Kurt's on board. It's nice having someone from home close again.]

The Bridge

[Speaking of Kurt, the man himself approaches Kitty not long after settling into his new home. He'd half expected the request to be denied, for the purpose of cruelty disguised as drama. But it wasn't, and here he is walking right up behind Kitty in the pilot's chair, resting a hand on the back like he belongs there.

What he owes her is an apology for hiding away after his run-ins with McCoy and another world's version of his mother. What he does instead is narrow his eyes at the chair, inspecting it.] Do you suppose this thing will dump the both of us on the floor if I crouch on the back? [Perching instincts never die, apparently. Especially not when his nerves are on edge.]

[She tips her head back to look up at him. Hey you.] Probably. I could scoot over? [They shared a bed meant for one. They could probably handle a chair meant for one. Not that she expects him to take her up on it.]

I guess you put that transfer in after all. Thought maybe they'd sent you back. [She didn't think any such thing because she's been checking his name on the crew lists daily even as she's gone without hearing from him and stopping herself from checking more regularly. There was an important name missing today though.]

[He doesn't. Kurt shakes his head at the offer, tail sketching a nervous shape with sharp edges before he forces it to still.]

Course I did. Put in the request soon as I got back to the ship that day. [And told none of his crew members about, which he feels a pang of guilt over. What would he say, though? It isn't as though he'd made any effort to speak to any of them.] You aren't getting rid of me so easily. ..I'm sorry about Logan.

[Her head drops back down and she folds her page in the book and sets it down on the terminal away from the important buttons and switches of course.] I didn't really get a chance to know him. [It doesn't really make her miss him any less. There was a lot left to say and ask and... It doesn't matter.] It happens in these places.

[She looks back at him.] Welcome to the Windrose. We're teammates again. [Crewmates. And as if they ever stopped.]

Even so. [His hand seeks out one of her's, not moving to grasp so much as rest on top. Even with the solemness of the situation, there's a vague sort of amusement at seeing how easily his hand dwarfs her's still.] Have you seen the girl recently? Laura.

[That does get a smile out of him, worn and small but no less warmth in it.] Been a while since we lived in the same place. I suppose I'll have to brace myself for when you accidentally phase into my room. Again.

[The touch is welcome. It's one of the nice byproducts of having him here. Someone she's already so close to and open with. Of course, there is a part of her trying to reassert herself when he's around because he triggers the instincts that were more common to act on back home. Those aren't always the warmest and gentlest.] Not for awhile. Her name's still on the crew logs and she's not exactly super social. [So maybe nothing is wrong, but...] I should check in with her. [Or check on her more like.]

[A playful smile takes over on her lips.] Who says it will be an accident this time? I'm kind of over this whole giving you space thing I was trying.

One of us should. Perhaps convince her to attend this masquerade I've been hearing about. [He might have been avoiding everyone, but he'd be a shame to his training if he didn't catch little details like a grand party being thrown. The particulars of the occasion escape him for now, but he hasn't managed to ferret out any sordid details that would ruin the evening, so it should be safe enough.

The comment about his privacy gets a raised eyebrow.] I seem to recall giving you a talk years ago about a man's need for privacy. [He pauses, biting down a grin as he turns to more fully face her.] Now that I think about it, I remember a few discussions with you.

That's a good idea. That means you'll be there too, right? I mean I could just dance with you on the bridge, but music might help. [Really, it's already been decided. You're going too!]

[He will get a smile for his effort.] I would have hated to deprive you of getting to talk to me more by making things easy the first time. [Her code name should have been Stubborncat.]

[At some point, Wrath will wander up to the bridge, just for a change of scene.]

We've got a full ship now, isn't that awesome?

[She puts her book down and smiles at Wrath.] I don't know. I was already starting to come up with ideas for the empty rooms. We could have made one water tight and had a giant aquarium. [At no point was she thinking this until just now when she decided to say something vaguely ridiculous.]

You seem happy though. Do you know them?

Ooooh. That would be cool. Um. Well, you could do that with my room! I'm still sleeping in the armory...

I do! I talked to Tenno a bunch, he's really nice. Ordis is... um. Ordis is a computer person who is in a human person body now so he's kind of. Uh. Disoriented about things.

[Ordis also needs to calm the fuck down about basically everything.]

He gets a little stressed sometimes but he'll hopefully feel better since he's on the best ship in the fleet!

No, I think the dream is over, but thanks for the offer. Do you like it better in there? The armory.

[He didn't have an android body before? Something stationary like a terminal? Her "best ship in the fleet" line distracts her from her line of thinking with a smile.]

Oh, and I guess I'll be the one to know the other newbie. It's Kurt. He's a teammate from back home. [And she wanted him closer.] We were missing a communications person.

It's not bad. I like being around all the guns. But it's just mostly that way I don't have to go up and down the ladder. [Once her back is fixed, she's definitely using her room again.]

Oh, cool! He must be really awesome. Is he nice? Is he cute? Can't wait to meet him!

Right... I didn't think about the ladder. I could phase you down to the bunks, but getting up still takes movement, so I guess that doesn't help.

[So much excitement, Wrath.] Umm...he is awesome. I mean, he's a good friend. He has been for a long time. He can be extremely nice. Or not. Kind of just depends. [He'll probably flirt with Wrath though so that will be nice Kurt.] And I will leave the cute up to you. I think he's handsome and distinctive.

It's okay, hopefully this is just temporary. Just have to be patient. And it means I can get to the armory real quick if we need it.

He's only been on board once before. We mostly just stayed in my room. [She hasn't seen him nearly as much as she wants to. He's been keeping a low profile especially after Mystique's arrival.]

Home is a...tough place. It takes adjusting to places that aren't like that. I had the prison for that. He's fresh out of it.

[ Wandering around looking for someone to talk to is what Sascha does best! So there's no way he won't run into her at some point, especially when he's...actually trying to find her and all that, sniffing her out as best he can. He still needs to thank her for looking after him when he'd thrown up, and then of course there are the oh-so-coveted dance lessons...

But also? He really just wants to see her again, especially after his run-in with Kurt. To reaffirm they're friends and that she doesn't somehow magically hate him, like everyone else back home. He's still afraid that what he has here will inexplicably shatter one day and leave him with what he had before: nothing.

So when he catches sight of her? Sascha lights up like the sky, raising a hand and waving. ]

O...kay. [She just shakes her head. It's not worth it. Sascha will be Sascha.] It's good you're here. With the masquerade coming up we need to get you those dance lessons.

...Masquerade?? [ Sascha blinks, expression devoid of recognition. He hasn't been down to the planet since his vomiting episode, so he hasn't heard much of it yet. Let alone that it's open to anyone, including him. ]

There's going to be one on the moon soon. ...Do you know what a masquerade is? [Because who knows if vamp world has such. She had only the vaguest picture of it until the locals explained.]

[ Well technically it hasn't yet become 'vamp world', but that's not too far off from his current time actually. ]

That's....a big...uhh. Halloween party?

[She nods.] Yeah, sure. Close enough. Just no bats or pumpkins. And you can also just dress up instead of doing a costume. The mask is the only real requirement it sounds like. And it's inside so you can use a breathing mask or any other kind really. I'm just going to wear one over my eyes.
