[She looks at him to check for accuracy.] And then dating less than that. [But don't ask her to pick a time for that. As recently as last night she was still just calling him a friend when introducing him some of the time.]

I can add it to the list of novelty t-shirts to embroider.

he gives kitty a curious look. ]

Officer...Snuggles? [ so far he's met 'vision' and 'wrath', he won't be as surprised as he should be if that's someone's actual name. clearly he was assigned to the bishop by mistake, he should have been placed on the ss puntastic. ]

That sounds like a fun job?

Oh, sure!

[Wrath whistles a little quick little (tuneless) tune. And a white fox in a tactical vest comes barreling down the corridor full speed. At a hand gesture, he sits, grinning, tongue lolling.]

Winn, this is Officer Snuggles. He's the ship's morale officer. Snuggles,[She reaches out to point at Winn's hand, and Snuggles gets up to sniff at it.] Winn is a good boy.

[Kitty definitely has her way of losing her chill around Snuggles. It helps when Wrath is directing him and keeping him so regimented. Kitty is always just thiiiis close to using a baby voice and rolling around to play with him. Everyone has their weaknesses, okay?]

He's so cute in the vest.

[ it's a pet! his eyes practically light up as he lets him smell his hand good and proper before stroking the top of his head. ]

Hey buddy -- so this is the cool ship!

[ a captain who makes breakfast and a pet fox? oh, yeah, and awesome girlfriend and sort of adopted little sister margaery - ]

It's his working vest, so he's on the job right now. [Saying that for Winn's benefit.] Patrolling the ship and looking for trouble.

[Grin.] We're the best ship in the fleet!

[Kitty just nods and then sneaks some petting in too.] She says that a lot. I assume there was a poll of some kind. [She assumes it's just a thing Wrath says because it's her ship.]

[ he smiles as their fingers briefly brush against each other as they pet. ]

You've got an unfair secret weapon -

It's obvious, Kitty, you just have to look.

Well that's the point of a secret weapon. It's not supposed to be fair. It's supposed to kill all the motherfuckers on the other side when they're not looking.

We're definitely a great crew. Though I have to give it to the Tourist for having bigger beds. [Maybe Kitty will work on that.]

[She smiles back at Winn. Yeah, she's a little too happy to hide her ridiculous this morning.]

You don't really have Officer Snuggles trained to attack people though. ...Right?

We can work on getting that upgrade! Just talk to the Captain. I don't really mind what we get, honestly, this is already so nice, and if I don't spend the money making everyone else's lives more awesome I'll just buy shoes.

[Not actually a joke, even if delivered with her customary smile.]

He wouldn't be much of an war fox if he didn't know Kill gosh. And he knows guard and we're working on find right now. [Grin.] And I taught him kisses! Because he is the morale officer after all.

I'll run it by him. It's a pricier one, but I have some money. [Let's just not think about how the "sex tape" is part of how she made it.]

[Yes, Winn. Apparently, it was a real concern.] Okay. No using that first one.

[ now eyeing the fox with concern. he doesn't look like a killer - but then again, kara doesn't look like she could squash him like a bug - ]

[Eyebrows go up as she looks at Kitty.]

It's basically like having a gun. You hope you don't have to use it but you're ready and trained if you do.

[She looks at Wrath before relenting. It's not like she needed weapons here so far but she was still working on getting her claws back. Still trained every day. Still worked on a way to get Kara her powers. And it's already done so...]

Be a hell of a thing to know you were killed by something named Officer Snuggles.

[ he can't really view getting kara's powers back in the same category. you can train to protect yourself - you only kill to kill it's right there in the title. ]

Guns just make arm races.

[ petting the fox - he doesn't get a say in what he might be made to do, and the whole topic is just stirring so much discomfort in him. reminds him of how his father tried to steal away his choice, turn him into a gun pointed at the man he hates. ]

[Wrath looks between Kitty and Winn, and there's a shift in her expression, since apparently this needs to be serious for a minute. Finally:]

Hi Winn, lemme introduce myself the whole way. [Because maybe then this will make more sense to him.]

My name is Wrath. I was the lieutenant of Wrath Platoon, in the mobile infantry division of the Proles Army, commonly known on my world as the Ghost Wolves. I fought on the Line for all 422 days and my platoon was in the 28% of the army that was still left at the other end of it. And the Line happened because of an arms race that ended in biological warfare and ruined terraforming, and us defending the last city on our planet.

So I'm absolutely fucking aware that wars aren't things you win. They're things you survive.

My crew is going to survive whatever comes our way. No matter what.

[Well this got tense.]

Okay. We've all had our experiences. Always tricky sharing when people have really different homeworlds. [Winn's practically survives on friendship and hope and sparkles compared to Wrath and Kitty's respective worlds. But she also knows how hard violence is for him considering his father's past. And she's protective of him.]

I think we can all agree Snuggles is adorable and survival is a crucial starting point. [Without it you've got nothing. It's just that with it, you don't have much more. You have to build up and out from there. And if you're really lucky you can start talking about things like "should there be guns" or "should fluffy foxes get commanded to kill" but only because you survived long enough to get to that point.]

[ he kind of feels like he's just gotten verbally slapped in the face. maybe meeting kitty's friends was a bad idea - he's made a lot of friends here, it kind of made it easy to forget that he's not actually good with people.

he practically cringes, and looks over at kitty gratefully. kara could continue this discussion, but he? is terrible with confrontation, and with tragic pasts. he just wants out of this. ]

Agreed - [ even though - while he absolutely can't know what he'll do if he's ever faced with the choice, when thinking about it from a distance he hopes he's the kind of man who would die as himself rather than live as his father. ]

[Wrath seems to just relax back down into her normal small, cheerful self.]

Sorry. I didn't say all that to be an asshole. I know people don't really look at me and think oh yeah, she's a soldier or whatever. I figure stuff I say sounds less batshit when my background's known.

[Shrug.]

And I'm not a soldier any more because I got discharged, so that's okay.

[It's not you, Winn. It's her. She still isn't sure how to relate to people when it's not as an officer.]
