I think I'm counting 5, unless I'm getting it wrong. Let's see how well I'm keeping up.

Number 1 - your and Kurt's world. In it - Erik's the leader, he's with Rogue, there's a Wanda there.

Number 2 - Rogue and Kurt's multiverse double's world - the one whose you you've met.

Number 3 - Hank, Erik, and Charles' world

Number 4 - Logan's, world - possibly Kate's too -

Number 5 - Your Captain's world, where there's also a Wanda but she's not a mutant.

How'd I do? [ yeah ok even he couldn't keep all the names straight so he tried to stick with the ones he was mostly sure of. ]

I guess that works. I mean, they aren't very creative numbers You could have gone with 616 or something for Logan's world. Make it a real challenge.

You left some people out and there only used to be a Wanda in my world. Remember, everything is always the worst there. [But she smiles softly, wanting to keep this upbeat.] But impressive listening skills anyway. [She kisses him gently.]

[ oh. he returns he kiss, and strokes her hair - trying to offer comfort without breaking the mood. ]

I'll do better next time. I'm great at tests.

You're great at a lot of things. [She smiles back.] Wanda died before I ever joined the team. It was an early mission. I met her for the first time here. But her twin brother is someone from my team. Pietro. His thing is super speed. His codename was Quicksilver. He even had silver hair to match.

[ giving her shoulder a little squeeze, even if she didn't know her. ]

Super speed's an awesome one - [ theoretically if one could go fast enough - one might be able to break the inter-dimensional barrier. maybe a theme to explore. ] Any idea how fast he can go?

I'm not sure exactly. Definitely faster than sound. [She snuggles in closer.] Logan was the one who trained me. I mean, most of the X-Men had some lessons for me, but he was the one in charge of me. His codename was Weapon X back home, but the one here went by Wolverine who was an entirely different person where I'm from. His power is a healing factor. He can heal from things that would kill almost anyone else. And he has the claws and heightened senses. A cigar habit. He's shorter than me. Some questionable hair styling.

...He's important to me. [Like a father, but she doesn't say it. Doesn't ever really even admit that part to herself.]

[ healing power. what he wouldn't give for kitty having that one. he holds her protectively - as if he could ever protect her from anything. if trouble stirred, he's the one who'd need protection - she doesn't need to say the words for him to get her meaning. ]

He sounds like a great guy.

[ he couldn't be a huge influence on someone as wonderful as kitty if he were any less. ]

He would just grunt at you if he heard you say that. [She smiles but it dims.] There's more, but it falls into everything is the worst at home category. [But she'll let him in if he wants in.]

he kisses the top of her head, and when he speaks his voice is soft. ]

You lost him? [ he doesn't want to dredge up painful memories, but they seem to already be surfacing and he doesn't want to leave her to face them alone, either.

she said most things wouldn't kill him, but even if he is still alive...there are plenty of other ways to lose someone, he should know. ]

He left the X-Men with Jean. Kurt never forgave him for that. I understood, but...it was hard. [It was part of why she pushed herself into Piotr's arms so young. Yes, she loved him, but she just wanted some kind of security too. Someone who would love her back and stay with her. It all feels a little pathetic to her now looking back.] But that wasn't the bad part. I thought it was for a long time, but Kurt is from years into the future from where I was.

He lived to see us defeat Apocalypse...and for Logan to become our enemy. He's the reason almost all of the X-Men are dead now.

I don't know what to do with that. I wanted to talk to the Logan here at least, but then he disappeared. [She's just been carrying it around for weeks.]

[ he breath catches in his throat, and he just holds her tight for a long moment. betrayed. again. it blows him away, how strong she is - that she could even trust people at all after all of that. that she would take a chance on him, considering what he might become. ]

Do you know...how it happened?

[ how he changed so drastically -- why? how could he turn on someone who cares for him this much? ]

[The deck is stacked against her and it feels more foolish every time, but she does trust Winn. She's glad he's with her now.]

Aliens. If Kurt said the race I don't remember it. But it seems Apocalypse's power came from them too. And with the power comes the need to exterminate humanity. So, maybe En Sabah Nur was just some innocent mutant who never wanted to be the monster that destroyed the world. I don't know... [Kurt's story shook a lot of what she'd always thought she'd known.] He didn't know why or how Logan got the power. Maybe he thought he could control it. Use it for good. Maybe he didn't have a choice. [Or maybe part of him did want it, but she couldn't think that way. Not about him.]

Jean stopped him, but she became that thing too, so I don't know... Kurt said last he saw her she was in control, but it doesn't sound good. I don't Kurt gong back there either.

[ one ring to rule them all.

he's had mostly good luck with aliens. yes, a lot of them are trying to take over or destroy the world. but the two best ones are hellbent on saving it - so it more than evens out. but this? a body snatching alien invasion? this is too much. it's all too much and he just wants to take her away from all of it. there has to be a way. ]

If it's up to me, nobody will.

[ it's as close as he can get to saying it without saying what she asked him not to. he'll open a portal back to his national city or he'll open a portal back to his national city. and when he does, kitty and anyone who's important to her are going to be the first through. ok. kitty first, then kara, then everyone who's important to kitty. ]

I know. [Her voice is soft and she kisses his cheek as she curls in against him. She knows how much the idea bothered him. At least she thinks she does. She has no idea how angry it made him or that he's working on something to get her to his world.]

Tell me something? Anything. Just about you. [She doesn't want it all to be about her.]

I made a music video with the AV club in high school where I rapped. Badly. And before you ask -- I don't remember how it went.

[ that's the sort of thing she meant, right? ]

[She did say anything.] That is very cute. [And a step up from her doom and gloom which she really doesn't mean to keep sharing. It's just...the majority of her past.]

What was it for?

[ it's what he was going for. good thing his nerdiness gives him an endless supply of silly stories. ]

We were trying to be cool. It didn't go well.

[That gets a soft laugh.] I think you're cool, Winn Schott. [Resting her head against his shoulder.] I'll fight anyone who says differently.

[ stroking her hair happily ]

You just made me the coolest man in the galaxy.

You make me happy. [Which is even higher praise. She makes a little happy murmur at the stroking. She really loves having her hair played with.]

[ a fact he's committing to memory. it's easy to remember, he really loves playing with her hair.

an intense wave of warmness sort of sweeps over him at that; making her happy is exactly what he wants to do. he gives her shoulder a little squeeze, giving her a look that might be just the tiniest bit - completely smitten. ]

You make me happy too.

[Oh, that look. Don't ever stop giving her that look. She reaches out to lightly touch his face. She feels so close to him right now. Not just in terms of proximity.] Even with all my terrible stories?

I'll never be happy that you've suffered - but I'll always be - grateful to be someone you can share it with.

[ he may not be a great prize, a huge comfort, but he wants to do what he can to help - to be there for her. ]

[She leans in because this man requires a kiss.] You're way too good for me, and I'm keeping you anyway.

[ he laughs into that kiss because he keeps thinking the opposite - kitty is so far out of his league, they're not even playing the same game. ]
