We have a masquerade coming up, and I was bored so I thought I'd mettle in people's lives for my own amusement. First, the disclaimer, there is nothing wrong with going to a dance solo.

Now, for anyone else, who wants a date?

Sorry, not me. Taken. But there are probably some of you out there thinking a date would be fun, and sure, why not? So speak up. Let's make some love connections. Or, you know, awkward dancing connections. I'm a mutant, not a miracle worker.

I'm sorry the answer wasn't as scientifically satisfying as magic. [She almost jazz hands along with that. She just barely stops herself.]

After the Pokemon, I'm not sure why I bother questioning anything anymore.

Pokemon? Do I want to know?

Oh, um... They're weird sort of... Little monster things from my little sister's world. Most of them are cute, and then some of them are apparently powerful enough to destroy and recreate her world.

I stopped questioning it after a while.

Kind of an adopted sister situation? [She has picked up some family-like people along the way herself. No one she officially gives a title to though.]

Yeah. Technically, we're teammates, but it's a bit of a pain to explain that part here.

You don't have to go into it. I get the teammate bond. Or at least I get the ones I have. I know they can be strong.

Yeah... It's a nice bond to have.

Are any of your teammates here?

Kurt is. Er, Kurt Darkholme, not Wagner. Well, Wagner too, but we're from different versions of the same team. Same goes for most of the other X-Men here. Except I know some of them as X-Men and they aren't and some of them are X-Men when I don't know them that way. But Rogue, Remy, Ororo, Erik...Laura [Even though she definitely didn't know her from home.] It gets complicated. [Charles was dead. Hank was evil. Mystique was an ally, but definitely isn't in this form. And then Wanda who isn't even a mutant somehow? But her feelings aren't the same here.]

Actually...Laura might be someone you could talk to about this dance?

... Oh, right, we were talking about that. What's she like?

[She's heard the X-Men mentioned a couple of times- Hell, three of the ones here came from the same shithole she had. But she was never particularly close to any of them, so she doesn't know much about that group.]

She's really pretty. [What's the nice way to say damaged?] Tough, resilient, experienced. Hell of a fighter. She doesn't waste words.

[Sadly, any implications of damage go right over her head. The rest seems to sink in, as she unconsciously fiddles with her hair a bit.]

Well... Sounds like someone I'd like to meet, anyway.

Meeting is a great idea! ...That I did not think through in the slightest. She is talking to me if you want to just jump in and set something up?

... You should probably think this through for people who don't know each other. If it's a masquerade, trying to get people to meet up with people they don't know while in masks is gonna end badly.

[She pauses.]

Badly, but hilariously.

I mean, hilariously is definitely where I started. It's not my fault my conscience kicked in.

But if you talk first now you'll see each other's faces and know if this is instantly the worst idea probably?

See? Always an upside! But really, Laura's great. I haven't known this version very long, but I knew her in the last place. Good luck? Seems like you could both use something good.

Oh, that always gets confusing. There's a couple people here like that for me, too.

Confusing is the X-Men way. But yeah. Allen is another one like that for me. [And things are not going well between them now so moving on!]

[That gets a soft laugh.] Yeah, she's kind of gorgeous. [Which is very weird to admit when she's also Logan's clone and Logan was basically her replacement father/mentor.]

It gets to be a pain... Kind of wondering if there's other fucked-up versions of me wandering around. I haven't heard of any yet, but...

Seriously, damn.

Hmm, I think it bothers me more the other way. Wondering about better versions. [She really never had considered versions who might be doing truly awful things. Maybe she should considering how different the Hank here is from the McCoy of her world.]

I'll take that as a job well started at least.

If they're still me, even the better versions will be fucked up.
