Who: Anders
Broadcast: Video, fleetwide
Action: The Marsiva, if at all
When: Today
[The video turns on to see a bunch of fabric. A keen eye might notice it looks kind've like a skirt. A knowing eye would recognize it as mage's robes. The man holding the communicator isn't paying it any attention beyond having picked it up, he's too busy making kissing noises as he searches the too empty ship.]
Pounce! Ser-Pounce-a-lot! Here, kitty!
[The tone of voice he was using was higher and probably sounded a little ridiculous.]
Please don't have gotten into any trouble...
[But there was definite concern in his tone as the man searched for his missing kitten.
At least until his step staggers and then stops and there's a catch in his breathing that could nearly be called a gasp.]
Well...would you look at that...
[Not that anyone could with the screen still faced away, but Anders had no thought for the device or much of anything aside from his kitten and the large window displaying the vast emptiness of space before him.]

video;
At the least I'm getting to see and explore new places - which was part of my job in the first place.
video;
Yes, I can see how that would be pretty jarring. I'm sorry, having freedom like that and then having it taken from you..must be hard.
[Must be, not is, he doesn't want to be that open, no matter how nice the good captain might seem.]
The new sights are surely a plus, I'll admit, I'm excited for them myself.
A new question: are there 'space pirates' where you're from? Back home, there's as many pirates as there are merchant ships, so I'm curious if the trend continues in space.
Re: video;
I'm adjusting. Many people here, I think, have it worse than I do.
[ Which was an honest truth. He at least understood the concepts around space travel and the technology. For many, it was so far beyond their understanding he had to wonder if they weren't in constant states of shock. ]
Haha, well, yes actually. Sadly, that risky part of merchant travel did not fade with progression. I don't really come across them though. Pirates are smart enough to keep away from Fleet ships.
video;
Anders himself was doing a good job of Not Thinking Too Hard about it.
The news about pirates makes him laugh, though.]
That's almost a relief, honestly. Some things never change, as they say.
'Fleet ships.' That sounds like a military term. Is that what you were part of?
Re: video;
Hmm-mm, that's right. I'm part of an organization called Star Fleet. Our mission is scientific exploration and planetary aid where needed or requested. I'm the captain of one of the ships - the Enterprise. Though she is quite a long ways from here, I fear - or any messages I've tried sending out have either been blocked or, more simply, are to far away to be heard.
video;
Ah, my condolences, then. Most ship captains I've met don't like being away from their ship, even if they're on another.
Re: video;
Well, I won't be breaking that mold anytime soon. But I think it's the same for almost everyone here - missing their homes, whatever form they take.
video;
Perhaps I'll see you around, sort-of-Captain? At least, once I'm able to see anyone at all around.
Re: video;
Of course. In fact, I'll show you where to get the best beer in the Fleet as soon as you get off the Marsiva.
[ Priorities, Anders, he has them. ]
video;
Excellent. Maker knows I'll likely need it at one point or another, thank you.
Re: video;
[ He does try. ]
It's always important to know where three things are - your ship, the med bay, and the bar.
video;
Me, I'll...probably be in the med bay a lot. I mean, as I understand it, we get jobs here, but that one makes most sense to me.
[He smirks teasingly.]
I imagine you're the sort to show up in a med lab quite often.
Re: video;
Is that the augment you have? Or did you used to do it back home?
[ He smiled back, though he was curious. He let out a sharper bark of laughter at that last assertion though. ]
I do try to keep out of it, but what can I say? I am an explorer - such things come with the territory.
video;
[He hesitated on the specifics. Saying he was a 'healer' might give away too much. Who knew how magic might be viewed here or even where Jim was from. It was too much of a risk.
Better to stay vague for now.]
I knew someone like you back home, she was an 'explorer' too, always dragging me who knew where. Trouble often came with that, I found.
Re: video;
Well, it's to be expected when you're going into new territory. It's nice when everything goes well, but accidents happen.
[ So did getting chased by natives or giant animals, but that's not something Anders needs to know. ]
