[ ah, and so the inundation begins ]

Yeah, sure.

[ distractedly -- but then -- ]

How long was I out for?

... More than a month, actually.

I can come by later, if you need some more time.

[ . . . great ]

It won't make much of a difference.

You can come over now, it's fine.

Okay. I'll be by in a few minutes.

[And soon enough, there was Al waiting to be let in, wearing a gas mask styled after the chibi version of his old armor... just because.]

[ and zuko will open that door pretty soon after the alert is sounded, and he blinks at the mask before he makes a face, stepping aside ]

Why does it look like that.

[ wtf alphonse jesus ]

[Al grinned as he took the mask off.]

My armor was my body for so long, I like wearing little throwbacks to it every now and then- though back home, I made sure to put it to good use.

What did you do with it?

[ asking stupid questions about al's armor will help him ignore the fact that he missed five weeks of his life, and zuko ensures the door is locked and shut tight before following after al ]

I had the blacksmiths in our hometown make it into automail parts- those are artificial limbs, like Brother has. I also had them make a new sickle for Granny so she could clean weeds out of the yard. [Al smiled shyly.] It would have been a shame for me if my body just stood gathering dust somewhere, so I wanted it to be put to use and help other people out.

It's not really your body, though.

[ zuko is sure it must've felt that way, after living so long in it, but -- ]

It's good to hear it got recycled, I guess.

[Al frowned a little.]

It was, though. Maybe not the body I was born with, but the armor was me for a long time. And it went on to give other people life in some way.

It's a nice way to look at it.

[ take a positive spin out of something awful. which zuko is horrendously bad at doing. but he pauses before shrugging slightly. ]

I'm glad you got to keep some small piece of your old self, anyway.

I tried to look at it in a positive way... even if some things about being armor were difficult. Otherwise I would have ended up bitter, and that's just not me.

[He smiled.]
