That is so much like him. [ He murmurs softly ] Always carrying the weight of the world so that no one else will worry. But that you know, I think... I think it must be a relief, for him.

[ He bows over her hand, deeply, a supplicant ]

[The bow takes her by surprise and blinking, she sits up straighter. There's a moment of quiet uncertainty, as she struggles to find the best response. Truth be told, the bow makes her uncomfortable, raised as she was in the egalitarian Federation, but she recognizes that this is a gesture of deep respect and gratitude, so she will be careful not to disregard that sentiment.]

It is... my honor to help him bear this. He has carried enough for me and no doubt for others as well.

He always does. [ Maglor smiles wistfully as he straightens ]

Finrod the Valiant, Friend-of-Men, and Dwarf-friend, also, a title so few ever gain. Do you know, we visited him once, my older brother and I, in his halls. And we saw him playing with the children - one of them wore his crown! And he told us that there was no finer treasure in all his halls than them.

[dancingmd]

[As if Beverly needed more reason to love Finrod and now you are telling her about him playing with children.]

I can perfectly picture him saying that.

[Then she looks sad again.]

He would have been a good father.

[ Maglor nods wistfully ]

He would have, yes. But his sweetheart did not cross the sea with him, and he took no wife. He might have fostered a few, I suppose, but I never heard ought of them if he did.

[dancingmd]

His sweetheart?

This is the first I've heard of her.

[BEVERLY NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO BE NOSY AND YET...]

I suppose he would not want to bring her too close to memory - but her name was Amarië, and she was one of his mother's people, the Vanyar.

[Beverly nods and goes quiet for a moment, thoughtful.]

It is... difficult sometimes, to think about a partner you have lost.

Mm, it can be. I heard later that because they were not wed her father forbade her to follow, but only Finrod knows the truth of the matter. For all I know, he asked her to stay behind for her protection.

[dancingmd]

I can see that as well. Ever the protector.

[She has already had to make him promise not to fight Tek and Max on her behalf so. This makes a lot of sense.]

[bythewaves]

He is, yes.

[ Maglor's tone is very fond, but sad, too. ]

That family have also the ability to see further ahead than most. If he told her himself not tocome, he must have had some inkling of the trials he would face.

[dancingmd]

[She nods, dropping her gaze. Her voice is very quiet as she speaks.]

He knew. Not the details, not how... but he knew he would not live long.

[ Maglor sighs softly ]

It does not surprise me that he knew. As I said - it runs in his branch of the family. His younger sister is perhaps one of the strongest at such things that I knew.

[dancingmd]

But how...

[She frowns.]

Forgive me for being a skeptic but... how can one really predict the future, when there are so many possible paths, so many things might happen?

[bythewaves]

You would have to ask Finrod or Galadriel if she ever comes here for the details, I fear. But as I understand it, it is a gift that is very hard to bear, for interpretation of what one sees is unreliable, at best, and frustratingly vague and insubstantial, at worst.

[dancingmd]

[She nods. That seems more in line with how Beverly understands time working.]

I must say, I do not envy them that ability.

[bythewaves]

It is not an easy burden to carry.

[dancingmd]

I can imagine. It can be… useful, in preventing possible dangers, but if you become too obsessed with changing what you see, that can prove disastrous. But so would resigning yourself to a fate that may not come to pass.

[bythewaves]

Mm, I cannot imagine how Galadriel bears it, but she seems to do so admirably well. Finrod never spoke about his Gift, so I do not know how strong it is, for him - but it would not surprise me if it tis stronger than he has let on.

[dancingmd]

No, I wouldn't be either. It would be very like him to downplay his abilities. And well... it might be the safer thing to do, here.

[bythewaves]

Maglor pauses before asking, "In what sense?"

[dancingmd]

Not everyone is familiar with mind abilities like that. Even I'm not - I know plenty of people with telepathic or empathic senses, but that's not quite the same.

[bythewaves]

Is Finrod in danger? [ and despite the fact that Maglor's voice stays perfectly level it is as if a large predator just woke up ]

[dancingmd]

No!

[Beverly's eyes go wide with alarm at the change in his demeanor. Is she going to have to talk an elf down again?]

No, that's not - Finrod's fine. Believe me, if I thought he were in any danger, I'd tell him and you. I only meant that perhaps it is wise to be circumspect about his abilities.

[Truth be told, this is the least worried she's been about Finrod in a long time. Now that Tek is gone, she's not aware of anyone who might bear him any ill will.]

[bythewaves]

[ Finrod is his kin, one of his precious, beloved cousins, who he failed and betrayed, time and again. If he ever learns of anyone who might hurt him, Maglor would kill to defend him in a heartbeat.

So long as the Oath remains asleep, at any rate.

He nods, accepting, but the lingering sense of danger does not evaoprate, only subside, tamed. ]

I see. Well, my cousin is accounted one of the Wise for good reason, I will trust to his judgement.
