Hmmmn -- well, the appropriate celebration would be lying around doing nothing. But we're rebels - [ he smiles and leans in for a kiss. ]

[She kisses back, looking amused after a moment.] So we're going to celebrate the same way we celebrate seeing each other and getting ready for bed and waking up?

If it ain't baroque - [ he smiles, a little obnoxiously, before shrugging ]

Mmmm...you could tell me why you had blows to the head that required CT scans. [YOU THOUGHT SHE FORGOT! No, of course she would just bring it up right before potential sex. Of course she would. You're the luckiest man in the multiverse. /laughtrack.]

[ that smile kind of freezes uncomfortably. it's his own fault. he should have pretended he was kidding. but she asked, so he shrugs, he'll share. he won't outright lie at the question. ]

Basically, when your dad orphans a bunch of kids - you're not gonna be Mr. popular at an orphanage.

[ did he make light of it enough? he could go lighter. ] Scan was for legal reasons, wasn't that bad, really. Dunno why I brought it up.

I didn't really think it would be. [She gently strokes a hand through his hair.] Did they transfer you or at least keep you safe after that?

[ he shrugs with a smile. never bother anyone, always be helpful, smile - even when it's the last thing he feels like doing. some of it is just the way he always was. other parts are lessons that merged so completely into his very core that he can't really tell them apart anymore anyway. ]

And you still do. [She leans in touching her forehead to his.] Are you going to be offended and emasculated if I tell you that I want to keep you safe forever so you can keep whatever profile you want?

[ he smiles, booping her nose. he appreciates it, he really does. that she could care so much about his little troubles, after everything she's been through, that she wants to keep him safe even though she's so tired of fighting. he doesn't want to be the thing that will drag her back in the ring, though. he wants to keep her safe too. ]

I'm generally for me being safe.

Not just physically. [She knows what it's like to just be hated by people for something you can't control. She hates that he went through that too and younger and more. She spent almost all her time with other mutants once she was rescued.

And don't get her wrong or let her fool you. The second someone is in danger she is throwing herself in without hesitation to help. But there's a big difference between something like that and working to take down an opponent that you can't even get to.]

It stopped being an issue once I went away to college. Most people remember murderers by their nicknames, not their given names - I was mostly left alone til he broke out, and that was earlier this year - grown ups have their problems with you behind your back.

Everyone knows. [ it's a bitter-sweet sort of feeling. well, he does have the world's weirdest bromance with james. and he and alex get along? ] It was all over the news, and the FBI came to talk to me at the office. Apparently they also searched my everything and questioned anyone I ever said two words to after he kidnapped me. They thought I was working with him. [ which - you know - makes him feel so swell. ]

I'm sure it's not personal. They were playing the statistics or something. [Not that she wants to be defending them when obviously this was bad for Winn.] And also they're scum. [Sorry, Reid.]

I'm sorry...all of it happened. That he put you in that position as a kid and again as an adult. [She rests her hand on his chest.] You have such a big heart. I can't even tell you what you deserve instead because I'm pretty sure I've never seen a good enough example of anything to say, but it's something pretty great.

[ calling them scum makes him laugh a little. it's just so sweet. ]

Mmhm. I'm not sure who's crazier, them or my dad.

[ he hugs her, running his fingers through her hair. ]

So something like you? [ no, she's way more than he deserves. he has kitty for a girlfriend, kara for a best friend, cisco, kate, jim, hank, and margaery for friends...he's never had so much in his life, he's not sure what to do with it. he hasn't felt this secure, this loved, this wanted since before his family fell apart. if they defeat the atroma - no matter what happens, no matter where they go - it's going to be so hard for him to say goodbye. ]

Like me? Like the girlfriend that asks you about your head trauma when you're thinking about getting frisky or who starts comparing you to her ex? I think we could do better than me. [Clearly teasing but also, of course she believes he can do better. She wouldn't go so far as to say he should or that she isn't a good girlfriend most of the time but too good for him? That wouldn't even cross her mind. And definitely nothing like a reward.]

Like a girlfriend who cares enough to ask, when she's got too much on her plate as is and who's honest with me, even when it's hard. There is no better than you, Kitty. Not for me.

[ she understands him, without him having to explain. she makes him talk, share, when he would otherwise retreat into himself, she loves him for who he is - fuck ups and all. she loves him enough to take this huge chance on him, after already being hurt, even though he's probably not worth it. she makes him a better man - and isn't that what everyone says true love is all about?

he leans in for a sweet lingering kiss. ]

[She kisses him back. She doesn't know if you can push emotions into kisses, but if you can then she is with all her might. She'll be pouring her love and commitment to him right in there with the press of lips.]

Hey, [she rests her hand over his heart] those are my lines. [She looks into his eyes. Hers are full of emotion and shiny from being close to the happy sort of tears.]

[ it definitely feels like she can to him; the kiss leaves him breathless, his heart racing in his chest, and that knot in his gut finally starts unraveling. ]

[ he has no idea what to do with himself when she looks at him like that - he just knows he wants to do something that'll keep those looks coming. ]

[So many feelings! SO MANY! And somehow it all feels good right now even if there was fear earlier that she'd pushed him away. It feels like they can get through things together and they love each other and even if they are both flawed they still love each other and want to be together. That means so much.]

Then you'll have to sue me for infringement because I love you, Winn Schott. [Kissing him again with such tenderness.]

[ it's one of his favorite things about them - they talk. when things are uncomfortable or painful, when all he wants to do is run and hide - hide behind a quip, or a joke, or silence - she calls him out on it, she doesn't let him get away with it. and she's open about everything she's been through, everything she's feeling. they work through their flaws together. it gives him hope that maybe - just maybe - they can do this, they can make this work. ]
