Knocking is strange, though, because most of the people who come to visit just waltz right in - not that he minds, of course, but knocking means it's either someone new, or -
He opens the door and there's the other answer. It's Erik.
He tries not to look like a deer in the headlights and almost manages it]
—ah. Erik, hello. Uh - come in. [and he steps aside so he can]

Can we pass on the argument today? I know.
no subject
If you really knew, I wouldn't have to keep telling you. [He does come inside though, cutting a glance at the lab set up. As though trying to spot where the offending potion was done.]
no subject
I gave it a month, Erik. [he huffs, turning to shut the door]

Erik hefts the toolbox onto the table with a bang. It's heavy, so it wasn't intentional... mostly. His tone is a bit curt when he continues, but he's moving past the contentious subject for now.]
What is it you want to do in here?
no subject
He crosses his arms, letting out a breath] Lower at least one of the tables, so Charles has somewhere to work when he visits. [he glances around with a frown] That's what I had in mind when I messaged you.

Anything else?
no subject
Not really - well. [there's a long, long pause] If I say it, you better not laugh at me.
no subject
[Look at that, his sense of humour came home from the war.]
no subject
[but you know what? Fine. Fine, he'll say it]
Somewhere I can hang from and still work on everything. For when I decide to give the serum a break.

The height might be a problem. This isn't exactly a high ceiling.
no subject
And I'm not exactly short, I know. [he shrugs, sitting back on his haunches] But you asked, so - the table is an actual request.
no subject
You could maybe fix a bar in the top corner. But you wouldn't have much room to move either side. [As a vague aside.] You wouldn't really need me for the table, just a saw to shorten the legs.
[Which would be crude and awful, of course, but he's just saying.]
no subject
. . . if I tried to do it I would ruin the table.
no subject
[He shakes his head.] I wouldn't laugh at that. [Especially because of what it represents.]
no subject
[he glances at Erik for a long moment, as if determining how honest he's being . . . and huffs, glancing away again] Well - good. [he runs a hand through his hair, shifting from foot to foot] I know it may not seem like it, but - I really am trying, Erik. I want to try.
no subject
[It's not enough, not to his mind, but he's learned to - compromise. A bit. He'd rather Hank be secure in himself now. It's frustrating to watch him struggle with something so obvious. He bites his tongue more than Hank knows.]
no subject
He doesn't know why he feels like he has to justify it to Erik - maybe so he can try to make him understand a little more, or maybe he's too defensive about the whole thing. He watches Erik rummage before he speaks up again] As much as we argue about it - you know I take what you say to heart, right? It - annoys the hell out of me, [he huffs out a laugh] but I don't ignore it. I know you mean well.
no subject
He comes up with a screwdriver, examining the head.] I mean what I say. It's not as though I tell you these things just to make you feel bad. [Sometimes, if he's feeling vindictive, that might be part of it. But that's rare, these days.]
no subject
He steps back to hop up to sit on one of the counters, out of the way of whatever work Erik's about to do] I'm not going to lie and say it makes it easier, but it's . . . something I still need to hear.

[he's seen Erik demonstrate his powers time and again, both home and in Kyriakos, but even then, he's still amazed whenever he does see it. What a nerd] Are your powers dampened here?
no subject
I can't feel or affect the outer hulls of these ships. Either they're not made of a material I can control, or I'm being blocked from it. I couldn't get a sense of what was beyond the open areas of the Marsiva, either.
no subject
Charles said something similar. [he huffs a little] Ridiculous.
