Winn kissed me once, at home. And I basically had to Hank-speech him. Not the ex part, but the "I don't want to hurt you" and "I don't want to ruin our friendship" thing. It sucked, especially since he's my best friend. But I'm already an alien, you know? And he can be... well, I don't know that he always sees my flaws. Which, I don't want someone who's overly critical of course. But I just want to be a person sometimes too, you know?

To be fair, that's always been the case for me.

Then you're a better person than me. I mean -- I try not to get caught up in the drama. It used to be worse. I've pretty much sworn off relationships for the time being.

She obviously wanted to make amends with him and have a relationship. I just gave it that little extra push to make it happen.

...And went to their dinner to help them talk to each other when their first dinner went poorly.

If her life is going well, my life is going well. I don't like seeing her bogged down with things.

I suppose I can relate to that. A little.

I guess mostly it's just... I can't have a relationship with my mother, and it would pain me for someone to have that opportunity and not know about it, or choose to pass it up.

Also, she did fire me immediately, but then she needed dinner reservations, and my little mom speech maybe influenced her decision.

[ a moment of pain flickers across her face. and if kara is accustomed to reading such things, it's probably an easy conclusion to develop: kate's own mother simply isn't in the picture any longer. so she can certainly relate a little more. ]

I'm glad she took you back. She doesn't know how lucky she is.
