If he bothers the crew off the ship, we will be happy to hold him if we can do so with reasonable safety. If he sets foot on my ship...

You can pick up the sandwich bag.

[She mad.]

Mm, please don't endanger yourselves because of him. I'd rather our ships remain on good terms as well despite this . . . situation.

Just - no sandwich bags, please. It doesn't have to be escalated past what it already is.

Glad we're in agreement.

Ultimately your crewman is in control of his own fate. The outcome's my responsibility, but it's his choice if he's going to violate the security of my ship.

If he's lucky, my captain will get to him before I do. [Hi, you're speaking to the bad cop. Vision is the good cop.]

[oh yeah, he's picked up on that. He met Vision earlier]

I understand. And - again, in no way am I telling you not to defend your crew. I'd never tell anyone not to defend themselves.

I rather it not all end in someone's death, though. Instead, maybe there's way for our crews to work together to prevent any of this from escalating?

[Yo Hank, it's the captain, who's been calm and observant for this whole exchange.]

I'm perfectly happy to talk it out, as it were. Should I be the one to encounter him, I won't use lethal force.

It would be better for all involved if the situation should not need to arise, however, as I cannot in good conscience guarantee the actions of the rest of my crew.

[hi Vision, are you enjoying your birthday]

And I wouldn't expect you to. Hello again, Vision.

But - I would like to sit down with you and discuss this in detail, if we could. Once everything's - uh, calmed down, of course.

Hello, Hank. [He should have had some ice cream. Alas, someone had to threaten his crew.]

I'd be glad to. We have other information to share as well, and may as well combine it into a single meeting. I have hope we can come to a mutually satisfactory conclusion.

[personal profile] beathach 2016-05-18 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
[it's terrible you were denied ice cream, a true crime.

He's a tense, nervous mess, but his shoulders do relax a little, since it seems like he and Vision are on the same page]

Mm, that's true, and that works for me. [a nod, and a sigh] I hope we can, too.

[He really is. If he doesn't have to pick up any sandwich bags on his next shopping trip, he'll be just as glad.]

If we were to punish people here for the crimes they committed elsewhere, many of us would need punishment. It's better to leave it in the past.

[here's hoping that you don't have to]

I agree completely. Or at least - leave it until one returns home and can actually do something about it within their own world's rules.

We have no prison here, and I'd as soon not see one made. As for vengeance, it's a vicious cycle resulting in chaos, especially when the circumstances of previous crimes cannot be verified.

[Now if something bad should happen between individuals here, that might be a different story....]

[personal profile] beathach 2016-05-19 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Mm, it's - incredibly messy. I've seen what people do in the name of vengeance, and - it isn't worth it in the end. Even setting up a prison would be just adding to the problem, rather than finding a way to resolve it.

Perhaps the people of the moon have the right of it. Allow a fight without the lethality and consider it resolved at its conclusion.

[dryly] Could we be assured it would end without bloodshed, I'd suggest the same for our opposing crewmembers here.

They seem a bit too [bullishly stubborn? bloodthirsty?] intensely passionate about their feud, however.

[he can't help but huff a little]

If both of them can see reason and the rest of us can get a better understanding as to what's going on between them, maybe it's something to work towards. I know talking things out sometimes isn't enough.

I'm told in their world, they each had control of remotely operated fighting machines called Warframes; the concept of a fight without physical consequences is familiar to each.

[Damn shame they can't settle it over a Halo tournament.]
beathach: (99)

video;

[personal profile] beathach 2016-05-19 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Well that's - a relief, I think. When you say fighting machines - some sort of robots?

[if only they had an X-Box here]

I'm not entirely certain [getting straight answers out of Ordis is an adventure] but it seems so, yes.
beathach: (33)

[personal profile] beathach 2016-05-19 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Of course it's robots. [he just sighs and runs a hand through his hair. He's been hearing a lot about robots lately]

Well - we have engineers here, so if that's their preferred method of fighting maybe something can be created - albeit on a much smaller and . . . safer scale. Not that I want to encourage them fighting with each other, but I wouldn't want to deny them a possible outlet, either.

[He looks briefly pained. Poor, maligned robots. It's not their fault if they have shitty people controlling them.]

Tenno would prefer to avoid combat [or they wouldn't be having this discussion right now because they would have already beat the pulp out of each other] but it wouldn't hurt to have something like that in the Fleet to resolve differences regardless.
beathach: (98)

video;

[personal profile] beathach 2016-05-19 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[sorry Vision, his only experience with robots are ones that tried to kill him]

Mm, that's true. [he's all on board for them avoiding combat, there's no doubt about that] I'll mention it to a few engineers I know, once this is . . . settled. See what they think.

And I shall see if the strategists on this moon have any portable versions of some of the more complex board games that might translate to a more tactile experience. I've an Engineering augment myself.

That's - a really good idea. If I hear of any aside from chess, I'll pass it along.
