There was an uprising, about 75 years ago. The Capitol completely destroyed one of the Districts completely, bombing it out.

Since the uprising was quashed, every year each of the remaining Districts has had to send a boy and a girl into something called the Hunger Games. It's called that because you can get food—but only if you put your name in more times for the lottery. Unless they take food, the 12 year olds have their name in once, the 13 year olds have their name in twice, et cetera. If your name gets called, you must go to the Capitol and fight the other Tributes from each District to the death. The one who survives is the Victor... Your District gets food and you become a celebrity—and Capitol puppet.

Primrose had her name called the first year she was entered, but I volunteered in her place.

In my defense, it's nothing personal. I don't trust very many people. Warriors least of all, so in that way, you have an advantage.
