I'm not sure what they all are yet... but I took all kinds of things! Anything where I thought we could reasonably cultivate it on a small scale. So, those plants will need to be studied.

I'll tell you more if I like, but it's pretty unpleasant! Humanity is going through some dark times at home. [And her expression shifts only briefly, the slightest bit, to something darker. But Nunnally isn't for that, and Hange suppresses it.] So I'm anxious to get back.

If things were calm I wouldn't mind traveling like this...

It's not that. I don't need to discuss it either way... but if you're curious, well, I can answer your questions. I'll tell you this much outright: humanity is on the brink of extinction at home.

There's about a million of us, left within the walls.

[Which sounds big... but is really a small number indeed.]

They might not be so formidable if they didn't heal. These creatures are called titans, and they regenerate, you see. Slice them, and the flesh simply grows back! Remove a hand, an eye, and give it a few minutes - you'll see it coming in again. [She smiles a little too wide, and her eyes brighten a little too much, with that description - and then she takes a careful breath and reins it in. She must be controlled, with Nunnally.]

They only have one vulnerable point that'll truly kill them: the nape.

That's right. [Well, the origins are beginning to become clearer now... which, actually, is terrible enough. But how it all came about? She still doesn't know.]

They mysteriously appeared and began threatening humanity about a century ago, so the surviving human population lives within the walls. But it's far from ideal...

[She smiles.]

Don't worry about it too much, Nunnally. It's not your task to fight.

[ah... she opens her mouth after Hange's last comment, but closes it and seems to decide that she'll say something else instead]

I don't mind telling you more, but don't worry about me being alone. I trust you and Zhas too I suppose. Hopefully Coil and Garak will integrate well into the crew. And at home, I have many comrades.

[hearing that last bit makes her smile a bit more genuinely. Good, she trusts and relies on her teammates back home. They'll make sure she's okay... they all will together, right?

She knows that kind of thinking is painful optimistic, but she can't help it. Hange is a good person, and she deserves a long life]

Well, I work with a large number of people, but I can tell you about the ones I work with a lot. Moblit is my aide, for instance. He worries a lot and drinks a lot because the work we do is so dangerous! [He drinks a lot because of her...] He's an excellent artist, which is a useful skill for us - he can sketch specimens very quickly. And he's always doing his best to look out for me. [She grins. Moblit has a hard time keeping up with Hange, but she's very fond of him.]
