[She understands, of course. How many years has he made it a point to do exactly the opposite of what she's suggested, to close himself off and build up the walls that will keep him safe? She'll never understand how humans can be so cruel to each other, how they can put so little thought into crushing the hopes and dreams of someone as wonderful as Dorian.
