[ The video starts suddenly, with Caitlin sitting straight up, eyes open and wide with fear.

More than what's warranted with waking up in a strange place.

Her head bows, her eyes going directly to her wrists. It seems she's checking both of them, rubbing absently at them, as if she expected to find something. (Shackles or handcuffs, that's what she's looking for.) If she's reassured there's nothing there, she certainly doesn't look it. When she looks back up, her gaze sweeping around the room, she's trying to place where she is, what's happened. This isn't Barry's lab at CCPD, it isn't STAR Labs, and it definitely isn't Zoom's lair.

It's a few minutes before she looks right into the camera, her head tilting with curiosity. ] Hello?

[ Then the feed cuts out. ]

TEXT

[ The text follows about ten minutes later. ]

This is going to sound odd, but: whoever or whatever brought me here, thank you. I need to get back to Central City, though.

[ he doesn't usually look through people's conversations, but the mention of 'central city' piques his curiosity. he only looks through enough to ascertain that yeah - this place continues its trend of kidnapping from the same groups. ]

Hi -- whoever brought us here may be listening, but they're not really chatty. I am though - hi.

...I said that already. [ shaking his head with a smile that realizes how unfortunate he's being already ] I'm Winn. Schott. As in, S-C-H-O-T-T not trying to tell you about any injuries don't worry it's actually been really safe here so far - [ what is he doing? ]

I'm a friend of Cisco's. Has anyone explained the whole -- time stays put at home while we're here thing yet? Because that usually helps a little bit with the urgency to get back.

Hi, Winn.

[ There's a look of recognition in her face, if just for his name, not his face. So this is Kara's best friend. Kara's Cisco. And she smiles because, yes, Winn really does remind her of him. ]

Kara said you two are friends. And ... no, no one's mentioned anything like that. [ A beat, while she considers that. ] I doubt that it's time freezing because time doesn't work like that. It's probably closer to whoever [ she waves a hand to indicate their "hosts" ] did this is capable of returning us to the exact same spot in the timeline. Which is remarkable. And a bit scary.

Yeah, "freezing" is just usually a good easy concept for first day shocks. [ he nods with a smile ] You're Caitlin, right? Cisco's been raving about you.

[ everything the atroma can do gives him nightmares, but it's probably not the best topic for someone just arriving. he remembers all too well how badly he was freaking out when he woke up here and if he ever forgets - well - there's the footage. ]

He has?

[ She sounds just a little surprised at that. Her cheeks flush faintly pink. ]

I would have probably done the same, if the situation was reversed.

You're very braggable people.

[ he says even though he just met her. he trusts cisco's judgment, ok! and she's pretty cute already. he wonders if he should be telling her about the state cisco's in but -- a bro doesn't mess up a bro's fun. besides, it's another terrifying thing the atroma can do and scaring her is the opposite of what he's trying to do here. ]

Cisco is, certainly. We — we wouldn't be able to do what we do without him.

[ And she means every single bit of that. In her mind, her role could be filled in. A doctor is a doctor is a doctor. But an engineer with Cisco's creativity, that's irreplaceable. ]

[ oh, hello very familiar behavior. ]

Or without you, Cisco was pretty clear. He said you're the 'missing link'.

[ he's pretty sure cisco wouldn't mind him saying that, he doesn't seem like the sort to withhold affection. ]

Hey - I love to talk. I could talk all day! Pick a topic and - [ whooshing with his hand ] I'll run with it.

[ She just smiles because that? That sounds very much like the Cisco she knows. ]

A topic. Any topic? That's a very dangerous door to open.

I laugh in the face of danger - ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

[ ... ]

But only like. Conversational danger. Or virtual danger.

[ real danger is more of a duck for cover sort of situation. ]

Or. Danger with a really funny face - [ see he meant it. any topic. ]

[ Okay, now he really does have her smiling. It's nice, and it puts her at ease. ]

Conversational danger and virtual danger are pretty much the only instances I would laugh, too. The funny face, though... [ She trails off, canting her head to one side. She isn't afraid of clowns, per se, but they sure are creepy. ]

[ when she smiles, he takes it as a clear sign to carry on. smiling warmly in return, he does just that. ]

We're talking funny funny, not creepy funny. Like, real interesting and not I'm-gonna-nod-my-head-and-smile-at-your-vacation-story-even-though-I'd-rather-be-watching-beige-paint-dry interesting. ...you know, I get why people say it, beige is a neutral boring color and all, but I really don't think any color would be interesting to watch. Unless it leaks into freaky shapes, but then that's creepy territory again...

...I had a point.

[ he pauses to consider. ]

Oh yeah - [ makes a funny face! ]

[ She's just about to comment on the paint drying talk, because it's something to focus on aside from what's in her head right now. But then he pulls the face, and she bursts into quiet giggles. It's something Ronnie would have done for her, something he had done for her in the past. ]

That is an excellent point.

[ achievement unlocked! +1000XP! he smiles triumphantly at her giggling. ]

I thought so too.

[ he nods ]

Oh plenty - you're gonna have to narrow it down. Mathematical? Topographical? Engineerical? I know - just roll with it, we have a theme going -

[ is he trying to hard? he feels like he may be trying a tiny bit too hard. ah well, as long as it works! ]

[ She gives him a gentle smile. ]

How about ... what you like to do for fun, when you're not entertaining people?

Here I'm picking up a lotta things. So far I've - been working on a knock off Super Mario and making karaoke tracks - and just learning a lot, trying my hand at pretty much anything I can think of. How about you?
