[ The video starts suddenly, with Caitlin sitting straight up, eyes open and wide with fear.TEXT
More than what's warranted with waking up in a strange place.
Her head bows, her eyes going directly to her wrists. It seems she's checking both of them, rubbing absently at them, as if she expected to find something. (Shackles or handcuffs, that's what she's looking for.) If she's reassured there's nothing there, she certainly doesn't look it. When she looks back up, her gaze sweeping around the room, she's trying to place where she is, what's happened. This isn't Barry's lab at CCPD, it isn't STAR Labs, and it definitely isn't Zoom's lair.
It's a few minutes before she looks right into the camera, her head tilting with curiosity. ] Hello?
[ Then the feed cuts out. ]
[ The text follows about ten minutes later. ]
This is going to sound odd, but: whoever or whatever brought me here, thank you. I need to get back to Central City, though.

Anyway. He had kind of... assumed... an identity—he can shapeshift—and the government doesn't actually respond well to literal identity theft, no matter how much of a dick the last guy was.

He's a shapeshifter? We had a metahuman that could do that. Though the meta himself was a jerk, not so much the people he impersonated. [ She's not going to mention that said meta took on Barry's appearance and kissed her. ] How did the government find out?

Hmm. Not shapeshifting, otherwise you might have not mentioned it if you wanted me to guess. And powers, plural, so you have more than one. Superspeed, maybe?

We experienced something similar with a different speedster. But that was going to a different time on the same Earth.

I take it Cisco hasn't mentioned Dr. Wells much. Or at all.

[ She takes a steadying breath. ]
In the future, there's a man who becomes obsessed with the Flash. And something happens to sour that obsession, to turn it into rage. He decides the best way to get revenge is to go back in time and kill the Flash as a child. Except a future version of the Flash is there that night, who tries to stop him, and settles for speeding younger Barry away from the scene. Enraged, the man kills Barry's mom.
And then the man intends on returning home. But he's shorted out his own powers, his connection to the Speed Force, so he can't get home, not without help. The man has to basically create what he'd set out to destroy. He needed a way to fit into that time, though, and to have the ready resources. He .... bodysnatches a scientist, Harrison Wells and takes over his life. Lives as him, becomes famous and well-respected as him. Builds STAR Labs and the particle accelerator as him.
And Cisco and I worked for Dr. Wells, never knowing who or what he really was. Not until Joe got suspicious and pursued it.
