Hmmn. The noble thing to do would be proving you wrong, but then no snacks for me...

[ the struggle is real. he shakes his head a little and boops her nose with his own. ]

This is why I'm only the sidekick. [ whispering in her ear. ]

[She finds all of that very cute and whispering in the ear is always fun, but she still has to school him.]

Wrong. [She kisses him softly.] You're my partner. [Like she'd sleep with a sidekick. Please.]

[ she actually takes his breath away for a moment there. he's not really sure why this just seemed to have hit the perfect combination inside of him to unleash so much emotion - she's been telling him unbelievably sweet things all along, and it's not like kara's ever called him a sidekick, she's always telling him how irreplaceable and important he is - but there's just something about the word partner that seems to hit so many of his insecurities.

he's always felt like a coward, and it's gotten worse in the fleet, when he sees the way people look at him after every time he gets off a shuttle. he feels useless - the one thing he's always been best at he's not even good at anymore. and yet here's this amazing hero - strong, brave, powerful - calling him her partner, pulling him up to her level. maybe it's just in jest, they both know he'd be just a hindrance in a physical battle, that's for sure. but.

but.

he pulls away a little, to look at her face with a smile that's so goofy, and moved, and grateful, and determined to earn that word - earn it for real, not just as banter. he's always fantasized about being a superhero, and in times like these, kitty makes him feel like maybe - just maybe - someday he really could be one. ]

[She doesn't think they have all the same strengths or weaknesses for that matter, but she sees him as an equal. This would never work if she didn't. He doesn't need to be a superhero for that to her. He just needs to be someone she respects and trusts. Someone she can lean on and who will lean on her.]

Hi. [Looking up at him and maybe not knowing exactly what she did to deserve this look and smile she's getting.]

[ he leans in to kiss her again, sweet and lingering, before moving to softly trace her jaw and down to her neck. he just feels so warm and fuzzy and loved right now. ]

[He is doing an excellent job of making her feel the same way!] You are so good at all of the you things you do. [It doesn't need to make sense. It feels nice.]

Thank you for noticing, I've been practicing for 29 years - [ he smiles, making his way back up and kissing the tip of her nose. ]

Old man. [She's smiling back.] Thank you for perfecting it.

Wow -- [ pulling back to shake his head at her, a mock-offended expression on his face (with just a touch of real there - he does feel really old around here, surrounded by all the teenagers and dating a woman who was too recently one herself - and being called old by these people isn't exactly helping either) ]

Just. No respect for your elders.

[She has to giggle at that. How are you setting boundaries by being fun and adorable about it?] I'm the worst.

[ he may be the worst at setting boundaries. worst ever. ]

Kids these days - [ shaking his head at her. ]

Do you want me to get off your lawn?

Hmm - [ tilting his head, eyes wandering downwards. ]

Suddenly I think "lawn" got dirty.

Lawn's always dirty.

Weirdo. [So in love with this weirdo though. Must kiss him.]

[ he returns that kiss happily. ]

[She laughs lightly into the kiss because of the "too." He's right though. It was like saying she loves him.]

[ 'weirdo', 'nerd', 'geek', 'ridiculous', 'hopeless' - he takes them all as terms of endearment, when they come from the right people. ]

[If she used any they would undoubtedly be with love.] You're my favorite.

[ he chuckles into her lips ]

I better be.

[ he doesn't want to be settled on; he wants her to be with him because he's exactly who she wants to be with. it's still a worry sometimes, it's hard to shake the shadow of her legendary ex. ]

[You mean the legendary ex who broke her heart?] You're the rocky road of people. Or pepperoni. Whichever sounds better to you.

[ he knows from experience that heartbreak does not make the feelings go away.

considering how he melts when she says it, ice cream might be the more fitting metaphor. ]

Why not both, it's no dinner without dessert.

Both it is. Just not on the same thing. [She kisses him affectionately.]

[ he smiles as he kisses back, burying his head against her neck when they break apart. ]

How'd I get so lucky? [ it may be a weird thing to say on a spaceship he's been kidnapped to - but despite all the fears, all the homesickness, all the hardships, the helplessness...he really does feel lucky to be here, to have gotten to meet kitty, and all his friends. and when he makes it home with her - his life is going to be better than he ever dared to dream before. ]
