So here's how it goes: you tell me anywhere you'd rather be but here, with the caveat that it can't just be a home. I think it's safe to say that home is a very understandable answer, but it's also a little too achingly realistic for my purposes. So pick somewhere else. Pick Ibiza. Pick Iceland, if you want.

I'm an honest person by nature. Obviously I was just overwhelmed by my guilt.

Sure, sure. [ she'll let it slide this time. ] What this city like? Old? Big?

Both, yeah. It's a weird mix of modern and medieval- everything's rustic and stone-built, but there's lighting that acts like normal electricity... it's probably handwaved as magic, though.

You know anything about Norse legends? The whole world kind of revolves around them.

Like -- Thor, and Loki?

[ smirk. ]

Yeah, exactly! Yggdrasil was built around the World Tree, which is basically one giant boss arena on the inside. And under the city is a path to Jötunheim, which is a really high-level area.

There's probably other areas based on the same myths, but I don't know as much about them, personally.

I've met him, actually. Loki -- [ sorta ] -- not Thor. Although I've definitely seen Thor from a distance. Passed him in the hallway. Passed her in the hallway, now, too.

[huaaaaagh]

Loki's actually on my ship. He's pretty weird.

Uh, so, I did say I was clueless about the mythology and all, but isn't Thor a guy?

Usually. He was. But I guess he got unworthy and now some badass woman wields the hammer.

Ahh, got it. That's pretty cool, actually.

[Sounds pretty par for the course. He's used to women being more badass than the men at this point.]

Yeah, right? I mean. I don't know her personally. But she certainly seems cool.

[huaaaaagh]

...Wait, do you mean back home? You met Thor and Loki there?

[They're in this weird multiverse crossfire here, so you really have to check first.]

Sure. Spent a little more time with Loki than I wanted to, to be honest.

Hah, I bet my sister would freak out if she heard about that. She loves this stuff.

Oh? Is it the mythology she loves?

[huaaaaagh]

I think so, yeah. She read a lot of books about mythology and legends when we were little, but I didn't pay much attention to which ones.

Thor's cool, sure, but -- sometimes I'm not certain every single mythological figure really lives up to their literary hype.

[huaaaaagh]

Yeah, tell me about it. There's nothing quite like meeting your would-be hero and finding out their potential for awful firsthand.

[A bitterness one carries to their grave...!]

It can be tough swallowing that they're just as messy as the rest of us. Sometimes more so.

[huaaaaagh]

Legendary people making legendary mistakes. It makes them more believable, but at the same time, it definitely breaks the illusion.

And sometimes the world, too. Higher risks and all that.

[huaaaaagh]

I can't say much about that. My world's never had stakes that high, which I should probably be grateful for.

Never? What -- are things pretty peaceful there?

For the most part, yeah. I mean, there's conflicts here and there, but nothing very far-reaching. Basic stuff you hear on the news, that's about it.
