[ kate's surroundings are, quite evidently, a lush little corner of málum. the neon-y blue tinge of the bar's decor casts its colour over her features. there's a tall, impressively concocted cocktail at her elbow. ] I mean, I know I do. So here's how it goes: you tell me anywhere you'd rather be but here, with the caveat that it can't just be a home. I think it's safe to say that home is a very understandable answer, but it's also a little too achingly realistic for my purposes. So pick somewhere else. Pick Ibiza. Pick Iceland, if you want.

[ sometimes, she's just a little too much like clint. she'd never admit it, but -- man, watching his wreck of a love life? it makes her worry about her own. she's not certain she could ever go the marriage-and-then-divorce-and-then-still-fight-on-the-same-team drama that he and bobbi went through. skrulls or no skrulls.

but then there's teddy and billy... ]

I do know a couple. They, uh, both do the Avengers thing. Together. They seem pretty strong but I'm not certain that's the norm, I guess.

[ hand in hand, she drags him over to the jukebox. ]

[ he can't really imagine what kind of a nightmare that is. he just wants so desperately to be loved, that he can't really focus on the hurdles. he's dating a woman from another universe who's dead in her own. if they can make that work, right? ]

Well, I dunno what the divorce-rate is like in your world, but in mine making it work isn't the norm anymore for anyone...I'm glad they beat the odds.

[ he wants to believe he and kitty will too. he lets her pick the music ]

They're still young. Not married, or anything -- but they've weathered a lot, together. If anyone can make it, it'll be Billy and Teddy.

[ she picks something of the jukebox that's bold, brassy, but not quite recognizable. like it must have come from somewhere else. ]

[ with names like these it's basically destiny.

he spins her to face him with a smile, moving to the beat ]

[ now that's what she's talking about. loosely, she grips only one of his hands while shimmying -- brightly, spiritedly, to the smooth riffs of what must be some version of space improvisational jazz. ]

Right? And someone will. I'm not a complete misanthrope. I promise.

As a person - I'm glad to hear that.

[ unless he doesn't count, which is definitely a thing people have told him in the past. he smiles, just trying to keep up with her. ]

[ he certainly counts. everyone counts -- even clint, in his backwards and helpless tire-fire sorta way. and if a person wants that forever-together happy ending? yeah, she figures they deserve a shot at it. but kate doesn't care to think too long or too hard about what that shot might look like within her own circumstances. eli left; noh-varr made his choice. everyone else has been mere dalliance or one night stands. she isn't fussed. c'est la vie. ]

Well, duh. You and Kitty seem to make it work. Even here.

[ he shrugs. they've been together for two months and they act like they've been together two years. sometimes, it freaks him out. usually, though, he's too happy to question it. ]

Maybe. [ she drawls her answer as she spins. and then returns the favour, spins him! because futz gendered dancing roles. ]

[ but kaaaaaaaaate he makes clothes and origami he's futzing his gender role all over the place. fine, he'll spin, but only because it's fun. ]

[ damn right it's fun. their dance is punctuated by her laughter -- and by a sly glance. ]

Sure, maybe, but only if for a bit of quid pro quo. You gotta tell me a secret of your own first.

[ caution, winn. she hasn't actually confirmed she has a tattoo. #it'satrap. ]

[ he trusts her way too much to see it coming. ]

Secret, huh? Hmmn... [ what's something that's worth a tattoo though...he has a surprising amount of secrets for an uber nerd. but what's one that leads nowhere depressing? ]

What if I tell you my codename? [ it's totally not a secret. it's also never been officially used. totally great secret. ]

[ she sounds like she's bargaining. haggling. ] How many people know it?

[ he makes a quick calculation in his head - he's told kitty, kurt, kara, and cisco. that of course doesn't mean that they're the only ones who know but eh - why split hairs. ]

I'm not so convinced that's a good enough secret. [ she teases, smiles, shimmies a bit more. ] But I'm feeling generous tonight. Go on -- spill.

Are you ready for it? It's a really good one.

[ his eyes practically sparkle, like he's about to share the map to a hidden treasure. he leans in close, as if he really cares to make sure no one in the bar could possibly hear it, and whispers in her ear. ]

...Glitch.

[ she accepts that whisper with a grin. like the thief? glitch was one of the top merc/thieves in the world, kate thought. but she wasn't about to rain on his (frankly adorable) alias parade. she pats his shoulder. ]

I like it. Glitch. It works.

[ the fleet is already raining all over his parade by calling the augment fuck ups glitches, it's covered. he's a hacker, it's a good name for him, he feels! ]

You realize I did say maybe, right? [ she ALMOST feels bad. might have to come up with a juicier secret to share just to make up for this. ]
