006 - action/voice; i came in like troy walking in with pizza

[You know, Clay hadn't been expecting a day like this. All he was doing was going to the Iskaulit to do some workouts in the gym, even bopping to a tune playing in his head.

Of course, that all comes a stop when he sees the mess before he sees anyone else. Blood trailing through the hallway, like someone had been walking with it. His stomach churns a bit, and his first instinct is to flee and get someone with medical help. Like Jennifer, or Beverly, or...

But no, he's here, and he... doesn't really realize just how bad it is yet. He returns to his shuttle first to grab the first-aid box, then heads in to see who needs his help.

And upon following the trail, well... Turns out, it's a lot worse than he thought it'd be, and that instinct from before comes back full force. He's only had some lessons, he's not prepared for this level of medical trauma, he really isn't -

And that's why he'll be calling out on the comms - not video, because there are kids on the network, but it's pretty clear by the state of his shaky voice that this is definitely an emergency.]

I-I need doctors - healers, medics -

[He takes in a deep breath - ]

I need all medical personnel to the Iskaulit right now!

Something activated the programming in Winter. I suspect it was the Atroma. It took place in the Iskaulit early morning. I tried to reach out to him and I nearly got him back but my hold slipped before I could retrieve his consciousness.

[ There's a pause. ]

I apologize for that. It is not his fault.

2) No one else was with him when this happened? You're sure it was the Atroma?

There are a lot of specifics involved. It doesn't just happen. But I cannot confirm the Atroma either. I didn't see any other lingering presence in the mind.

[ Having seeped himself into Winter's mind and trauma, Charles sincerely believe it wasn't just Winter. ]

[ how powerful. and terrifying. like wanda, really, but wanda doesn't have that level of mutant voodoo. maybe she could, one day, once she works on her powers. but hopefully not anytime soon.

specifics to triggering his brainwashing. that makes sense, given only HYDRA could contorl him. charles stepping into his mind means that he must have seen these specifics (maybe) -- and if he can't confirm the atroma... ]

And you can't just shut him down?

I could. But I am a little rusty of late. I don't use my powers like that, not on a regular basis. And because there are multiple layers between me and his real consciousness, I didn't want to shut him down and cause further damage. It's delicate and I won't be party to hurting a man's mind in that way. Whoever he is and whatever he's done.

I don't need a list of his sins.

[ tony doesn't really know what, exactly, HYDRA had bucky do, but none of it is good. he just knows that steve has deemed bucky saveable, and tony agreed to help, and that is all there is to it. ]

You said you were almost there. Did he force you out, or did you just lose control?

[ because that is important. does winter have that ability, is the brainwashing that strong, is HYDRA that powerful.

he wishes he had his fucking suit. ]

[ though, tony shrewdly thinks, maybe re-scrambling his brains is what he needs ]

[ well then. a day or two is not going to help now. but still, charles went the extra mile to try and stop what is an avenger problem. so the least tony can do is switch on the voice feed, encrypt it, and talk: ]

[ tony has never been... well, tortured by HYDRA, but he has been tortured. and he knows how... well. devastating that is. mentally. he can't even imagine what bucky went through. ]

[ tony has no emotional connection to bucky outside of feeling bad that this happened to him. but he still slammed cap around dc and he's obviously still a liability. he's really only doing this because peggy and steve both seem to care about the guy, and tony is in a position to help. ]

Did you figure out what sets him off, besides the Atroma?

Passwords... what makes the best password -- totally randomized sequence of numbers and letters and symbols, but HYDRA isn't encrypting databases or Twitter accounts, they hijacked a brain... something that can be remembered by anyone who would need the Winter Soldier... probably not English...

[ it's spoken to himself, distracted -- and he exhales abruptly, annoyed ]

And he can't tell us what they are, because he'll go cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs if he does.

That's fine, that's a start. We can figure out the order. And if they're out of order, then maybe he can stand to hear them and tell us what the hell they mean. It might make it easier to decipher the rest of hte code.
