[You know, Clay hadn't been expecting a day like this. All he was doing was going to the Iskaulit to do some workouts in the gym, even bopping to a tune playing in his head.

Of course, that all comes a stop when he sees the mess before he sees anyone else. Blood trailing through the hallway, like someone had been walking with it. His stomach churns a bit, and his first instinct is to flee and get someone with medical help. Like Jennifer, or Beverly, or...

But no, he's here, and he... doesn't really realize just how bad it is yet. He returns to his shuttle first to grab the first-aid box, then heads in to see who needs his help.

And upon following the trail, well... Turns out, it's a lot worse than he thought it'd be, and that instinct from before comes back full force. He's only had some lessons, he's not prepared for this level of medical trauma, he really isn't -

And that's why he'll be calling out on the comms - not video, because there are kids on the network, but it's pretty clear by the state of his shaky voice that this is definitely an emergency.]

I-I need doctors - healers, medics -

[He takes in a deep breath - ]

I need all medical personnel to the Iskaulit right now!

[ not at home, they aren't. it feels like there's some new threat every week. and while he used to be just excited about helping kara kick ass!! realizing the stakes they're dealing with sobered him up significantly. the world he wants to take kitty to isn't safe. no world truly is.

now it seems, not even this one is.

he's not comforted. he feels like his world is shattering around him again. ]

How did this happen? Your powers -- did they fail? [ if the atroma is messing with her ability to protect herself he's absolutely changing his answer. he has very violent fantasies involving them right now. ]

[Well, that made her feel somewhere between incompetent and disappointing.]

...No. My powers are fine. I just can't be phased and hit people. He's fast. It can happen.

[ it can happen. not just when she's too trusting to phase. he can lose her to anyone, to anything. the thought is horrifying, and for a moment he feels like he can't breathe.

he shuts his eyes and holds her close, but gentle. ]

It's not your fault. [ it's the fault of whoever did this. it's the atroma's fault. he can feel the rage building up inside him but for once? he doesn't care. it's justified. ]

Winn, I've been hurt before. I'm fine. You've probably been hurt before, right? Cast as a kid? It'll heal. [She's going to have to worry over how much he worries, isn't she? It's like worry inception over here.]

I know. [ his voice is weak, but there's a definite undertone there, a strain. she's been hurt, and she wasn't fine, and it makes him feel like he might explode. what she does is dangerous, and unlike kara even with her power at full strength - she's not invulnerable. she'll get hurt again and the truth is that there's probably nothing he can do about it.

it makes him crazy. ]

I know. [ the anger turns to defeat. ] You'll be ok. [ this time. but what about next time? he can't seem to connect with his trademark optimism right now. ]

[She holds him closer and does her best to push out memories of Reid yelling at her for getting hurt. For doing the things she'd always done but being attacked for having a dangerous job. Winn isn't doing that. She's not going to lose him. She's not...]

[ he could never do that. her heroism is a huge part of her, and he loves her, for exactly who she is. he could never - would never - try to keep her from being herself. and the fact that unlike the people out there - her injury is contained, manageable - is proof of how good she is at it. to him, this isn't on her. this is on him. he has to get kara her powers back. he has to figure out some way he can help. he has to do something.

yelling at her is the last thing on his mind, she's hurt. his instinct is to take care of her, not make things more difficult. he holds her, rubbing her back. ]

[Thoughts are still a bit hazy and hard to hold on to. She just focuses on how warm and good he feels against her and will do her best not to fall asleep because of it and the concussion. Sleep would be so easy though.]

[ he can sense her slipping, and shakes her shoulder slightly. ]

Hey - hey talk to me. Come on. Say something or if we ever get hot dogs here I'm putting ketchup on all of them - [ stay with him. please. please. ]

[She laughs softly before making her eyes open again.] It's a myth. The not letting someone with a concussion sleep thing. [As long as they can hold a conversation beforehand, walk, and their pupils aren't dilated.] But all things considered, probably not the best place to do it.

[ well he hasn't tested her walking and he's not taking any chances. ]

Hey, I'm hanging around aliens, mutants, vampires, and god knows what else in an interdimensional space reality show - I'm not discounting anything anymore.

[ he smiles at her a little, gently tucking hair out of her face. ]

Come on. Let's get you checked up.

Yes, sir. [She gets up to her feet and she's doing good.] Do you know who else was hurt?

Too many people.

[ it's a cop-out and he knows it, but she's finally agreeing to get help and he won't risk telling her to have her run off and check up on her friends before she's been seen to. he stands up, and puts a hand around her, ready to steady her in case the need arises. ]

We'll look them up after a doctor gives you the green light, ok? [ he's practically begging - please don't fight him on this. he's worried about his friends - about her friends - of course he is. but right now, his priority is making damn sure kitty's taken care of. that's something he can do. ]

I'm not a doctor. I know there's nothing I can do. It's okay. [She agreed to do the thing. She'll do the thing.] Let's see if there's a free doctor we can flag down.

[ he kisses her cheek ]

[ he'll start walking but slowly, constantly trying to be aware of how she's doing. he's going to be protective now and she's just going to have to deal with it. ]

[She smiles softly and moves along at his pace for the moment. With any luck they'll find a doctor quickly.]
