006 - action/voice; i came in like troy walking in with pizza

[You know, Clay hadn't been expecting a day like this. All he was doing was going to the Iskaulit to do some workouts in the gym, even bopping to a tune playing in his head.

Of course, that all comes a stop when he sees the mess before he sees anyone else. Blood trailing through the hallway, like someone had been walking with it. His stomach churns a bit, and his first instinct is to flee and get someone with medical help. Like Jennifer, or Beverly, or...

But no, he's here, and he... doesn't really realize just how bad it is yet. He returns to his shuttle first to grab the first-aid box, then heads in to see who needs his help.

And upon following the trail, well... Turns out, it's a lot worse than he thought it'd be, and that instinct from before comes back full force. He's only had some lessons, he's not prepared for this level of medical trauma, he really isn't -

And that's why he'll be calling out on the comms - not video, because there are kids on the network, but it's pretty clear by the state of his shaky voice that this is definitely an emergency.]

I-I need doctors - healers, medics -

[He takes in a deep breath - ]

I need all medical personnel to the Iskaulit right now!

[She looks around slowly, eyes falling to Nami, expression one of queasy confusion.

She feels... a bit off. She feels better than -- what she can remember. But where's...

[Nami jumps a bit at the sudden wakeup call, so let's just put that conversation on hold. She smiles tentatively as Koala finally gets oriented.]

Hey. Mikleo's here, too. Everything's over.

[Well, that was faster than he'd expected. It's a good sign, at least- it means her head injury is probably less severe than it had initially looked.

He raises his voice a bit so it'll come through more clearly on the comm.]

I'm glad you're awake. How do you feel?

She looks between them, smiling like her life depends on it.]

I'm fine, I feel fine!! Everything is fine; I'm sorry for fainting! I...

And she's in no position to stop the tears that spill the instant she tries to fake it and make it.]

I - I'm okay!! I'm sorry, I don't know why, I'm...!

Nami's face crumples just a little in sympathy, and she sweeps Koala up in her arms before she can think better of it (what if it still hurts?), folding her in so she can cry into Nami's collar instead.]

It's okay to cry! No one's going to blame you for it. It was scary and Winter's an asshole and I'm gonna yell at him a lot later, okay?

[It'd be nice if she could actually see Mikleo, because it's hard to juggle a crying child and a comm at the same time. After a moment she eases it down on the table instead so she can still talk, hands free.]

[Oh geez. He's glad Nami's here to hug her- he's not the best at that anyway, but if pressed he would... except he's invisible, and the last thing he wants is to startle her. Especially when she's already upset. He leaves her in Nami's hands for the moment; her check-up can wait.]

It's just as she says. We're glad you're safe, but you don't have to be okay with what happened.

[She shakes her head against Nami's bosom, wiping her eyes and nose quickly. She shouldn't let herself lose so much control! It's just not good!]

It's — It's just been a long time since anyone's been so...

[No, best not revisit that terrible memory.

Even Arlong had limited himself, when he was cruel. He hadn't tried to kill her like that; knock her around, sure, but never like that. She's not sure what to make of it, that Winter was more vicious than someone who utterly despised humans.]

W-why would he do that? I had met him before, and he was so much nicer...

[Go ahead there's plenty of it She rests her hand on Koala's hair, letting her sob it out, and gives some thought to that question herself.]

I don't know. But I'm going to find out.

...Mikleo. You don't have any idea, do you? [There's more going on outside the bar, so maybe it's come up or been discovered or--]

I don't, sorry. No one can see me anyway, so I just passed through and healed wherever I could. I don't even know who Winter is.

[The situation seemed severe enough that he knows to save the questions for later.]

[She wipes her eyes, reeling her emotions back in. She's surprisingly good at it.]

He... He didn't even say anything.

His face was just... empty... He didn't look like he felt much of anything.

[She's only met Winter a couple of times. It's not enough to work out what might have been going through his head. (Or not going through it, from Koala's description.)]

What happened? Did he just... attack you the second he saw you?

[She swallows hard, recollecting that frightening moment in time.]

I... ran over and touched his arm. Because he was hurt very badly, and I thought...

I had thought whoever was hurting people, that they'd hurt him.

That's when he grabbed me, though; he wasn't... angry. He wasn't anything.

That does sound strange... he's normally not like this?

[Having never met the man before, he's a bit lost about what to expect.]

The times I've met him before this, he's been kind of shy. But friendly enough. [For someone with no social skills. Nami frowns.]

I don't know enough about him to know if this is in keeping. Maybe it's some kind of trauma reaction.

[She's not really sure what that means, not really.

She may have her own form of that she's usually unaware of, but you know.

Obviously not attacking people.]

You mean he may have been acting on instinct?

[What, they have some sort of ticking time bomb wandering around the place? Scary.]

It's possible. [Though she's troubled. That might be a reason, but what set it off?] I don't know enough about him or what was going on. I'm mad at him, but-- I'll find out why, before anything else.

[He could also just be a psychopath, let's face it.]

[She frowns deeply, sitting up a little straighter; her body aches and rejects it, but she's used to pain anyway — just purses her lips as she relaxes.]

I hope I didn't make anything worse, w-when I touched his arm... I didn't know...!

It had nothing to do with you, Koala. If you hadn't done that, someone else might, and the result would have been the same. You were only trying to help, right?

[It's not even a question, really. He's seen enough to know that's just what she does.]

It's definitely not your fault. You didn't make him do anything. By the sounds of it, he was probably already that bad when you found him.

[From the sounds of some others, Koala is lucky. Nami makes a note to send Kitty a damn good bottle of scotch at some point.]

[She relaxes a fraction, though she finds herself plumb exhausted.

Rubbing a hand over her eyes she nods slowly.]

What's gonna happen now...?

It'll likely depend on how he behaves when he's awake. Regardless, there are plenty of people who'll make sure he won't hurt anyone else.

[Nami nods in agreement to that, and she puts her hands on Koala's shoulders. Don't fall over or anything, smol child.]

...you wanna come home with me for the night? If your captain's okay with it.

[She trusts perfectly well that Koala'll be safe on the Huntress, but the kid's probably gonna have a hell of a time sleeping well.]

But of course, she takes Nami's word as literally as ever, looking in the direction she expects Mikleo to be in with her hands fidgeting in her lap.]

Is that okay, Mr. Mikleo? Can I stay with Nami f-for the night?
