[Tyrion takes anyone seriously who takes him seriously.]

Such a description would be apt - I come from a place where our transportation is horses and only birds fly. Space is merely where the stars and gods reside. Would there be books in the library on how to build that?

wow that's really crazy to think about like i'm literally from a planet humanity put a colony on using space ships and stuff

i don't really know what's in the library haven't gone :(
[Because she has such a difficult time reading, it seems kind of pointless.]

but um my captain is super smart and makes things and he might know stuff so you should talk to him?

Truly? Then we are as far apart techonology wise as one can be.

You should. Knowledge is important to have, especially out here.
[Says the man who reads three books at a time.] Captain Vision? Ah! Kitty's Captain. I have not met him but I have heard he is quite intelligent.

yeah its pretty crazy huh like i'm mostly made out of artificial parts and shit technology is pretty great

[It's not that she doesn't want to. It's the reading gives her headaches and words don't make sense, and she's embarrassed about it. She's also on a serious combination of medications, so whatever brain to mouth filter she had is basically gone. Whoops.] i used to read a lot i think i kind of remember but i can't any more but yeah kitty is on my ship too she's great and vision is really really smart i think because he's sort of like a computer person but not quite i think he's like an android person is the more technical term but anyway he's the smartest person i know other than my friend delta back home who is an actual computer person

Is that so? I did not know you could make human parts out of metal parts. One learns something new every day.

I shall be pleased to speak with Captain Vision, when he is available for such a conversation.

oh yeah like i'm more artificial replacement parts than anything else at this point i think like last time all my bones got replaced with metalloid composites which is pretty cool it can be kind of useful anyway i'll let the captain know you'd like to talk to him!
tallasaking: (Devilishly charming)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-16 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that is something I would like to discuss further with you, when you are on the mend. I look forward to seeing you around Kitty's ship.
pain_train: (some day i'll think this is funny)

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-06-16 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
okay sure i dunno what i can tell you cause i'm not a tech guy i'm m.i. but i'll do my best i'm probably gonna be down for a while so

[Well, she feels awkward now.]

if you're over at the windrose you're welcome to stop by the medlab i know how to play chess and shit
unbearablynaive: (ah yes)

[Sup Tyrion, Vision doesn't have much better to do than cater to Wrath's every whim right now so it's not too long before he answers.]

In fact, I've been investigating the construction of a 3D printer for weaponmaking, but there's no reason we could not use a combination of the solid and powder forms of protein gel to make a more accurate meat-like texture.

To simply grow a steak may in fact be a technology we can purchase should we encounter another station such as the Starlight.
tallasaking: (Oh Really?)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-16 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well hello there, fellow smart guy.]

Is that so? I have simply been constructing weapons from what metals I have been able to buy or find on the last few planets we have visited. Would a 3D printed be able to make composite meat form? And ... could one then give it texture?

Now here is the question, will they allow us to buy it, and duplicate it for all the ships? I cannot imagine us all sharing one vat.
unbearablynaive: (alight)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2016-06-16 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Certainly, provided there is an initial template for it to learn from. It wouldn't be difficult to scan a few cuts of prime rib or bacon.

That would be a good question, indeed. I suppose we might at least observe them in action and theorize based on that. In my timeline, we can grow body parts for surgical replacement but the process is inexact and we lack certain stem cell progenitor lines - a much more difficult task than using the protein gels as a base in printed meats.
tallasaking: (Oh Really?)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-16 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
So we would first have to get our hands on bacon and prime rib - a bit challenging but I am sure it can be done.

So we will have to wait until we arrive at a station with such technology, correct? We would not be able to ... ah, order such things?

A dedicated gourmet is a force to be reckoned with.

From where would you order them?
tallasaking: (Default)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-17 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
If that is what you are calling me -- I suppose I would have to agree.

I have absolutely no idea, but all these items that we are sent have to come from somewhere. They might - and this is extremely unlikely - might give us something as useful as a food vat.
unbearablynaive: (doubtful)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2016-06-17 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose it wouldn't hurt to request one. Perhaps if a kitchen is upgraded enough, it would become an option?
tallasaking: (Default)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-17 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps it would not ... we will never know until we try.
unbearablynaive: (ah yes)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2016-06-17 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
And if not, we shall have to see what the next world offers us in terms of resources.
tallasaking: (Honor)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-17 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Well I can build almost anything out of anything, so no worries there. If I can find the designs, we could build it ourselves.
unbearablynaive: (id' consider it)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2016-06-21 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Ah, good. No doubt Tony could help with a project like this, but whether he'd consider it a waste of time when he could just pay through the nose for real meat is another question entirely.]

I'd settle for a chance to get a close look at once of them. It's still all rather more theoretical than practical in my own time, I'm afraid.
tallasaking: (Oh Really?)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-21 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Well let's be honest - if Tony Stark could find meat in space ... then he was a new kind of genius on Tyrion.]

... where I come from, meat that is not from something you have hunted is all theory.
unbearablynaive: (for example)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2016-06-21 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Never underestimate the man's determination to have a cheeseburger.]

All the more reason to get some practical examples, then, isn't it?
tallasaking: (Oh Really?)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-22 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Clearly cheeseburgers have a greater appeal than Tyrion imagined.]

Well, I suppose I cannot deny that.
unbearablynaive: (alight)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2016-06-22 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Clearly he just needs to try one some time.]

I'll be certain to share any information I find.
tallasaking: (Oh Really?)

[personal profile] tallasaking 2016-06-23 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Clearly, once they find a cow, he should do that.]

I greatly appreciate that. Thank you, Captain Vision.
