You're fortunate to have him then.

[Her mouth quirks with amusement as she imagines Jean-Luc in the fleet.]

Though I'm fairly certain my best friend would manage to ruffle more than a few feathers if he were to ever shows up.

He's a captain, too. My captain. But he's not always quite as... flexible as Kirk.

[Not really a criticism - both have their strengths and weaknesses, but in the case of the Drift Fleet, she could see where Jean-Luc would have a difficult time when it came to people's resistance to organization and authority.]

Now, see, part of me wants to make a joke about that?
dancingmd: (grin)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-07-02 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Beverly laughs, imagining the look of consternation on Jean-Luc's face if he heard that. Oh, he just makes it too easy to tease him.]

I'm sure Kirk at least would appreciate it.

I've probably been spending too much time with him, in all honesty.

What's your friend's name?
dancingmd: (fond memories)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-07-02 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Her smile grows fond as she says his name.]

Jean-Luc. Jean-Luc Picard.

[She's one of the rare few to call him by his first name, after all.]

[personal profile] takingkarabusiness 2016-07-02 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
It's a nice name.

So, I'm not totally sure I'm clear about how you know Jim from home? Just different ships?
dancingmd: (Default)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-07-02 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Ah... not quite.

[Ironically, the ship is one of the few things that is the same.]

I don't know him personally - he's a figure from history class, for me. He was born about a hundred years before I was. And to make things more complicated, the Kirk here is also from a universe parallel to mine.

Sounds complicated, but normal for here. I have parallel universe friends here, too. Their friend actually crossed the dimensional barrier at home and I hung out with him for a day before he had to go back. Then his friends showed up here.
dancingmd: (mmm hmm)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-07-02 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm... It's not the first time I've encountered parallel universes either. It just makes it difficult to know what I can tell him sometimes.

[personal profile] takingkarabusiness 2016-07-02 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's a hard space to navigate. Stuff you may not even think about could be a big deal.
dancingmd: (what do you know about this girl?)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-07-02 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Fortunately we are bound by the same rules as Starfleet officers [However bad they both are at following those rules sometimes] so there is that understanding between us that if we refuse to share something, it's not personal.
takingkarabusiness: (melissa-bonist-supergirl-2780617)

[personal profile] takingkarabusiness 2016-07-02 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Obviously I don't know the Starfleet code, but having people around who you don't have to explain things to is really nice.
dancingmd: (what do you know about this girl?)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-07-03 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It certainly is - even if our histories are different, the basic principles we adhere to are the same.

[personal profile] takingkarabusiness 2016-07-03 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're from parallel Jim's future? I hope things are going good.
dancingmd: (what do you know about this girl?)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-07-05 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Relatively.

[A vague answer she knows, but she'd prefer not to get into the upcoming war with the Dominion right now.]

takingkarabusiness: (spg118_0369)

[personal profile] takingkarabusiness 2016-07-05 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'll take that. I've heard some horror stories about what people's worlds are like.
dancingmd: (talk to me)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-07-06 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods.]

Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. We'll be fine, the Federation always finds a way through.

[personal profile] takingkarabusiness 2016-07-07 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
That's the spirit!
dancingmd: (puck)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-07-07 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[She laughs.]

Well we are famous for our insufferable optimism.

[personal profile] takingkarabusiness 2016-07-08 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Me too! What a coincidence.
dancingmd: (grin)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-07-08 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[She smiles.]

Sounds like you're perfect for Kirk's crew then.

[personal profile] takingkarabusiness 2016-07-09 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
It's working out pretty well. We had some conflict but I think we worked through it. He can be a little Disappointed Dad sometimes.
dancingmd: (coffee and croissants)

[personal profile] dancingmd 2016-07-09 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[She raises an amused eyebrow at that.]

Aren't you two about the same age?
