[ you know, there's picking up flowers for a girl you met the week before at a party or at a coffee place or wherever young fellas meet their gals and there is picking up flowers for someone, well.
there's picking up flowers for peggy carter. ]
I'm trying to decide which ones.
[ he gives him a little look. help, hank. ]
no subject
Are they for Ms. Carter?

H - [ ow did you know? is what he intended to ask but a second later he shakes his head. the comm mistake, he almost managed to make himself forget that ever happened. he looks at the flowers, clears his throat and nods ]
no subject
Also wow Steve, you previous cinnamon roll]
Lucky guess. [is the answer to his unspoken question, with just a hint of gentle teasing] I can't say I know a lot about getting a friend flowers, but - I think the gesture means more than the flower itself? if that helps.

[ he smiles at him, there isn't any judgment here. who knows, with how the world is changing and how they're all from different worlds, maybe at some places it isn't even a tradition. ]
The first time I saw her here I said I would have brought flowers but that was the moon and - everything was dying. Now there are,
[ he gestures to the large amounts ]
I guess I just want them to be special.
[ a shrug; somehow, it's much easier to be captain america and fight aliens. ]
no subject
[what a nice way to say that he's never had the opportunity until - really, right now. Forget back home, there'd been so much going on that they'd barely had time to even have a relationship, let alone get into the traditional parts of it. It took them ten years to even put a word to it]
Following through on something like that is more important, I think. [that much he knows, from his own experiences. Fighting is definitely easier, though. He regards the flowers thoughtfully]
What's she like? [he only knows of Peggy through Steve and Winter, he has yet to meet her and knows very little about her]
no subject
[ he points to a bouquet of odd looking flowers who occasionally, when a fly passes by, devour it whole. definitely not getting those for peggy, ever.
his question seems to catch him unprepared, however. no one really ever asked that, Peggy is the sort of women who so easily stand out and describing her -
watch Captain America fumble ]
She's -
[ special is what steve would have gone with but that doesn't really give out any information, does it? ]
She's very resourceful, very smart - classy.
[ classy! classy works. right. ]
Very brave. She's a very good person, she helped me through times when - I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do. She showed me the way, like a compass. She's -
[ he smiles a little ]
-- beautiful. she's very beautiful.
[ can't forget about. that. though it seems to come secondary to all the rest. ]

I feel like there's a joke there, if I give her those. [like he'd be admitting that he knows Raven could eat him alive without effort if he ever screwed up that badly.
The joke is that it's entirely true.
Maybe it's a good thing that Hank still doesn't know that Captain America = Steve Rogers, not that it would mean much to him. Watching Steve stumble is sweet, and he can't help but smile. It's like talking to himself, stumbling over how to describe someone you love with all your heart. He totally gets it, and how difficult it is. There's absolutely no judgement]
She sounds amazing. [Steve you are so in love with her]
no subject
[ he shares a look with him, half amused and half wary. the joke is always entirely true, hank. ]
-- Yes, she is.
[ and yes, he is, painfully so. he clears his throat ]
She's British.
[ that is an important piece of information ]
That and 'classy' means I need to get this right.
no subject
[this is what they get for falling in love with dangerous women.
"British" and "classy" does put a good idea of what Peggy's like in his mind. He hums a little thoughtfully]
I think you'll get it right no matter what. [the gesture means more, after all] But I guess . . . does she know how you - uh, feel about her?
no subject
[ said with a mixture of amusement and fondness. one day, he might tell you a story about a few marks that are still present on his shield, faded with time though the memory of how they've got them is still present. ]
I think she knew before I did.
[ steve rogers and romance. ]
no subject
[how ironic is it that they both have a lasting something from the love of their lives.
Also Steve. Steve]
Well - then you can't go wrong with a couple of roses, right? Maybe - those and mix it up with some of the other flowers, so it's a nice assortment. [roses are romantic and you should obviously give them to someone you love: hank logic]

[ he points back to the little fly eating plant ]
Though I have a suspicion she might like it but something in the middle.
no subject
[he also looks to the little fly eating plant and can't help but grin a little]
It's certainly unique, at least. And not traditional.
no subject
[ he's pretty sure that's a reason for her exiling him for a month or two. mo girl can possibly find a fly eating plant to be romantic.
...he thinks. absolutely not sure. ]
no subject
[better not chance it, this is only a joke let's not try to be serious about it, for the sake of their relationships]
no subject
Well. There's only one thing I can think that we can do.
[ a good thing he worked for days on setting up the stalls, he takes a large number of acorns ]
We'll buy a little of each and get a third opinion.
no subject
That's not a bad idea at all.
no subject
[ the lady at the stall looks like her month has been made, what's with all the acorns. ]
Hey maybe you can take a few to your - friend.
[ smiling as he puts the little pots into boxes and lifts them as if they were nothing ]
no subject
He laughs a little and - he would offer to help carry them but Steve looks like he's got it handled] I think she'd like some.
no subject
[ looking down at the boxes as they walk, winning arched eyebrows and looks from the different natives. seems as if no one bought an entire flower stall before. Steve can only imagine Peggy's pained sigh if she even learns what occurred here ( he'll have to try and make sure she won't ) ]
How's she doing? your friend?
no subject
[don't worry Steve, Hank won't breathe a word about any of this to anyone. It'd only serve to encourage people to tease and they don't need the extra ammo]
Raven? She's - good. We're good. [that was an incredible understatement. He can't help but duck his head just a little] She likes it down here, but I think she likes that we don't have to stay on the ship the whole time, too.
How's your friend?
no subject
[ he's have to agree with Raven on that. being cooped up for so long with nothing else to do could drive an active individual out of their minds ]
She's - good.
[ much better in terms of healing from her injuries, thank heavens. ]
I think the open, clear air is showing its effect on everyone.
no subject
[considering how long Hank can spend in a lab, it says a lot that it was starting to get to him, too]
That's good - and yeah, I think it is too. It's definitely a good thing.
