CLOSED TO PATHSTONE
[ ‘good luck, pilots’. yeah, well, he kind of needs it. considering the whole ‘space ship piloting’ is a generally new thing for him (never mind the sudden influx of knowledge and experience that he really can’t account for), suddenly having to land a space ship in the water brings a whole different meaning to ‘new experience’.OPEN: SHOPS/PIER
it isn’t his smoothest landing, and it certainly isn’t his prettiest, but accompanied by some rough language and a couple of bumps and bruises, the pathstone makes its landing with a splash. they made it though, which is good. sam counts that as a win.
sam will spend the first couple of hours after landing making sure the ship is in well enough order for them to be able to leave the planet again before he starts to make his way land-bound, so feel free to come find him around the pilot’s seat. ]
[ sam doesn’t have a whole lot of extra cash to burn when it comes to shopping and stores, but that doesn’t stop him from taking advantage of the solid ground and open air. he’ll be wandering around the market quite a bit during his time here - if only because there’s definitely enough to see. the whole hand-holding bit catches him off-guard at first, but he’s one to roll with the punches more than anything, and he catches his stride easily enough.OPEN: GIVING TREE
now, he’s not going to be the one initiating any of this hand-holding, but he sure as hell isn’t jumping away from the sudden slip of someone else’s hand into his own (like he might have those first few times, cueing very awkward conversations with the natives). he’s not necessarily up to hugging strangers quite yet, but he could work there given enough time.
or enough drinks. ]
[ sam heard rumors his first few days here, but he wasn’t sure what he felt about them. a tree that gives gifts? gifts from home? there’s no way it’s possible, but the longer he hangs around the people and the planet, the more possible it seems.OPEN: GENERAL
it takes a couple of weeks but eventually there comes a day where he decides, you know. maybe it’s worth a shot. he’s not all that hopeful, really, but if he could something from home that was maybe a bit useful…he doesn’t know. maybe his wings? that would help a lot.
granted, he doesn’t really know where he’s going, and that forest? is very large. and thick. and an easy place to get lost. anyone want to help? ]
[ COME AT HIM ANYWHERE YOU’D LIKE I’M READY TO ROLL WITH IT ]

still, sam isn't going to waste the chance to move around. to get some open air. there's only so much he can do cooped up inside that very tiny space (with a very huge ego....it feels even smaller with tony at the captain seat, honestly). ]
Have to stretch your legs where you can, right? [ sam never considered himself claustrophobic, but this has been a different experience entirely. ]
You think we're going to run into anything that requires a need on this planet? [ violence, events, battles. sam hasn't been in this whole ship-show for very long, so there's always more info he can get. even if winter isn't exactly sam's first source to go to. he'll take what he can get. ]

[ The claustrophobia sets in occasionally, but it's hard not to, being confined to a small metal tube with limited mobility. Sure, the Iskaulit is a shuttle ride away, but it's still not the same.
Everyone feels it at some point.
Winter considers the question with a frown. ]
I hope not. It's hard to tell, though. The last attack was sudden, though there were no casualties. They were herding us.

[ he really hated those gas-masks. like really really hated. and he doesn't use repetition lightly.
nothing worse than losing your wings and your ability to walk around with a horror-movie gas mask attached to your face.
he's not yet sure what he hates more- that or spending extended periods of time in the ship with tony. either way, he's happy to be out and free. ]
Herding us? What makes you say that? [ the question comes with a raised eyebrow. feel free to explain, winter, he's ready. ]
no subject
[ No other real explanation of that. It was not to long after he'd joined the fleet. Since ships were damaged, but the atroma got them where they wanted them to go, in any case. ]
An enemy that doesn't aim for the kill is toying with you.

sam comes to a stop in the middle of the street, plenty of people walking by in each direction. he's always on the watch for possible eavesdroppers. he also turns to face winter, entirely, his expression a bit more curious than anything. ]
So they don't control the ships? [ a beat, before sam's arms cross over his chest. ] If they have to herd us using an apparently enemy, then they can't actually steer the machines. Can't make us go anywhere. Right?
no subject
If they can control our augments without lifting so much as a finger, why would they need to steer the ships?
Our perceived control of a situation gets ratings, Wilson.
no subject
[ the mention of ratings has him tense, but other than a slight grit to his teeth, not much changes.
he's still getting used to that part. ]
And they're just keeping it in their pocket until someone acts up enough to use it? Seems like a cheap out.
no subject
[ He knows better than anyone how much bullshit the ratings are. He'd gotten a pretty hefty sum after his own little glitch on the Iskaulit.
Bastards. ]
Fear is a decent motivator.

they should probably not talk about winter's most recent little romp about. sam's not exactly...well. a fan of it. and without steve around, sam will have a lot more to say. ]
It is. It just depends on what you use the motivation for. [ he can hear steve in the back of his head. knows what he'd say.
he doesn't feel like he needs to repeat it. ]
no subject
They use it to create drama. To make sure we're paying attention.
[ They being the Atroma, because aside from a few people in the fleet, things are generally peaceful. ]
no subject
They can use it however they want. I'm more interested in how we use it.
[ Steve Rogers Voice ™ ]

[ Sure, they can all rally together against the Atroma or whatever else, but with a direct link into their heads, what the fuck can they really do? ]
no subject
[ he shrugs, unsure a bit himself. granted, he may have a bit more of that optimistic streak since he hasn't been here very long, but that'll prove one thing or another the longer he hangs around. ]
What they're going to try and use it for. [ at 'it' he taps the back of his neck. ]
no subject
[ It's obvious now. He glitched out, Sam Winchester started digging and he glitched, too. People falling asleep from nowhere... Waking up with new memories, new scars.. ]
