[There's a slight crackle as the transmission begins, but it's almost immediately interrupted by a horrendous banging noise, and the screen is momentarily invaded by an out of of focus blob of colour again and again. Beyond the noise, it's possible to make out a voice that seems to be both very far away as well as muffled by something or someone.]

Hey, hey computer. Computer person, you there?

[Thankfully the banging stops after only a few moments; someone's been tapping at the camera, but has since figured out that it isn't doing anything helpful. Without the finger to focus on, the camera is finally able to come into focus, revealing a- well, someone fully decked out in regulation power armor. Someone that sounds very confused and just a little annoyed.]

Okay, cool, guess you're taking a nap or something. Not like a guy's stuck here, no clue where he is, nah go on and take your computer nap and-look get me the hell out of here.

Montana? Cap'n Galt? Galilea? [There's an exasperated noise.] Benedict? Look haha, funny. Come pick me up from where ever this is. The computer is taking a lame-ass nap or something.

(ooc: Oscar Mike is actually semiliterate, so any characters responding in text are likely to have their messages at least somewhat misinterpreted. I'm so sorry)

It's pretty easy compared to some places I've been. What's a hippie?

Hippies! Y'know, kumbayah and all that junk and granola and smelling like a campfire. Hippies.

Only one of those things I know is a campfire, and we sure don't have fire on the ships. Open flames are a hazard.

Oh. Huh. So you don't...like scream at people and roll in dirt and have weird-ass living vegetables running around and yellin' about mushrooms and shit?

Uh, everything but talk to the computers? I mean, it's a space fleet, so we do trade, visit places, try and ignore the people who complain about the food, stuff like that.

But like. Space. You still shoot dudes, right? That's a pretty important part.

When I got to, sure. I'm a Security officer on my ship.

Oh badass! Wait, they let you keep your gun??? How? Uh. Because sometimes guns get lonely, y'know. Can't have that.

[Finn shakes his head.]

Naw, they gave me a new one. Well, it got assigned to me. If you're Security, you get an automated weapon, and if your ship has someone else who's Security you get a sidearm.

Whatttt? Not cool. The bond between a guy and his gun is pretty private. There's a lot going on there, you can't just replace it with some crappy knockoff.

Really?

[Maybe that happens when you get to keep the same gun instead of always picking from a bank of identical ones. Then again, he doesn't have any particular fondness for his Security weapon--but he cherishes his practice lightsaber.]

They do take everyone's weapons when we get here. I'm pretty sure some of them could cause a hull breach, and they sure don't trust us not to do that.

Yeah. 's a special bond. Like, feelings and all that junk. It's not right to take that away, what if a guy's gun gets lonely? There's no one to make sure it's treated right, or that it gets talked to, and sure as hell no one to lovingly rub it down and keep it clean.

[There's a moment where he awkwardly clears his throat.]

Who cares about the hull with that?

Uh, the people who don't want to see their investment ruined, probably.

[He blinks, still trying to process all that.]

Are you speaking, like, metaphorically, or do guns actually have feelings where you're from?

Man, this stuff is probably all gonna blow up anyways. We just gotta take a new ship or something if it breaks. Not that hard. We need it more, 'cause I really don't want to get stuck in space and all that junk.

[There's a long pause as he just stares at the video feed for a moment. Thankfully the helmet means no one can see his expression.]

Look. Guns are important, okay.

I had enough ship crashes lately. Be nice not to have something blow up on me.

[Hey, anyone who's been a Stormtrooper all his life can read a condescending stare through a helmet, okay.]

Yeah, we don't see that much combat here.

Well yeah, the whole blowing up thing isn't really that much fun when you're the one getting blown up. It's like bam! pow! hi I was dead it was awesome! and get back out there. Sucks big time when it happens though.

[Look, all he wants is to make sure his precious gun is okay.]

You said this wasn't a hippie commune. Look, a guy's gun is gonna get lonely if he isn't there to take care of her.

[...Yeah, people he knows don't get up again after being blown up. Maybe it's another figure of speech?

They say we go back to our timelines at the same minute we left, so--uh, she--won't get lonely.

[But--but that's already the extremely simplified version of it. Finn exhales and shakes his head, giving up for now.]

So...like you said guns. Where does a guy get one of these security whatawhas so he can start shootin' things again?

Well, Atroma gave you an augment when you showed up. So once you're assigned a ship, there'll be an armory as long as you or someone else on your crew has the right augment.

Augment?? 's that a fancy word for new gun?

[The augment is usually the first thing people notice. He blinks.]
