That's what I get for trying to do the good thing for once. [she doesn't sound too put out by it] Why? Are you apart of the dead back home club too? We really should have meetings.

Not dead back home, more like "got sent to a world where slaughter was a common pastime" between my home and this world. It's been like two or three times not counting the frequent maimings? I'm over it either way.

How about you, just the once?

Are you sure you weren't sent to Hell? Because that sounds a little bit like Hell.

Me? Just the once. Though I was exorcised once - didn't kill me, but it sent me right back downstairs for a while.

Hell is sure one name for it. Not gonna dispute that.

Torturing and maiming and all of that are pasttimes downstairs. That's how you get demons.

It hurt like a bitch, that's for sure.

You get demons by torturing someone?

Sucks. I'm guessing Advil didn't cut it?

Without getting too technical, sure, it's one way. Torture a human soul long enough and bam - demon. [a gesture]

Nope. But I crawled my way back out eventually.

They get so fed up they go through some weird spiritual transformation or something?

Something like that.

That's gotta suck. So what happened to you?

You said demons happened when people get tortured a lot?

[angelherding]

Oh, that. [she waves her hand] Don't know, don't care to remember. I've been a demon for a very long time.

Oh. So you're like eternal or whatever?

Immortal, more or less. There's very few ways to actually kill a demon.
