I have an important request. I need someone who can make cheese. Do cheese makers have an old timey name like cobblers and haberdashers or are those only for clothes? Anyway, calling all of those.

Cheese doesn't seem to be a thing here from what I can tell, but we're just one ingredient away from some really great pizza. I have no idea what cheese requires other than cows or goats or something. I grew up so close to Wisconsin, but I feel like I learned so little.

I would also accept alternative cheese. I know there were vegan kinds made out of hopes and dreams or something I assume. I can pay you or share the finished pizza or do something in trade if I had skills. I could beat someone up for you maybe. [She's not going to do that. Probably.] We'll work it out.

[It's been a few days into Winn sleeping all the time because of the Atroma. By contrast Kitty has barely slept at all. She spent most of her time on the Tourist, staying close to him. Barely eating, not following her usual exercise routine, not going out or checking the network, and not even checking in with her jobs on the planet to let them know she wouldn't be there.

She knew it wouldn't do Winn any good to wake up to her like that, so she rested one of his origami creations beside him with a note, "Call me." Then she left the Tourist. She went through the motions until she was freshly showered and dressed and back on the planet she'd loved so much when they'd arrived. It wasn't giving her the same lift now. She moved through people who wanted to touch her like a ghost, phasing through them all wordlessly.

She heads back to the inn they stayed at, not really knowing what she wants to do once she arrives. But soon she's walking from room to room, phasing her head in to look for the familiar face.]

Tyrion?

[Tyrion rather liked this planet. It reminded him of home - or at least the good parts of home. There didn't seem to be very many of those, but there was enough. However, even he grew tired of people touching him, so he would take a room in the inn and then go to read and write privately.

Usually with what they would call tea, and some food, at that. He came to get some peace, and quiet.

Which was why he nearly jumped right off the bed when Kitty called out to him, the tea on his hand sloshing slightly and making him curse.]

[She looks at him half in and half out of the room. It looks like her upper torso has been mounted to the door.]

Sorry.

...Can I come in?

[He puts the tea down, carefully, before looking over at her.]

... of course you can. I am just a little baffled on why you are in and out of the door in the first place.

I was...

I don't know. [She slips in the rest of the way, standing fully solid before him.] I was just looking for you. [Why? Because she didn't want to be alone? She shifts awkwardly, looking just this side of miserable. Definitely tired.]

[He looks up at her, taking in the weariness, the sadness, and without another word he just opens his arms to her. Book falling out of his lap, ignored, as he gave her a quiet, encouraging smile.]

[There's a moment of hesitation, but only a moment before she crawls onto the bed beside him and wraps her arms around him securely, burying her head against his shoulder.] I'm going to lose him. [Voice weak and broken.]

[Oh by the Mother and the Father. He wrapped her up tight, his heart sinking in his chest.] What happened? [His voice is hoarse, worried.]

[He draws in a breath before she tries speaking again, not trusting her voice and feeling foolish for putting it like that even if it is what she's feeling. She knows nothing is certain, but she's sick with worry over it. When do things ever tip the right way for her?]

Winn's asleep. He won't wake up. It's a thing the Atroma do.

[He stiffens for a moment, before he tightened his grip with one arm, and lifted one hand to stroke through her hair.]

They usually bring those people back though, yes?

Logan didn't. [There may well be more examples of those who did wake than those who didn't. But Logan is a pretty important example. He wasn't from her world, but he reminded her of her mentor. She kept checking on him. Waiting for him to wake up and then his name was just gone from his ship roster one day when she checked.

And since they're touching and on the planet it doesn't matter if she keeps her words short. Her feelings and memories are anything but. She's barely spoken of Logan at the time, but it didn't mean it didn't affect her deeply.]

Winn isn't Logan. [He can almost taste Kitty's fear and desperation, as if it was his own, and he put images of Winn's determined face through his own mind. He had seen Winn's face - knew that he doubted himself but he never doubted his friends. Would never abandon them unless he had to.

Logan, it seems, was a mentor and almost a father-figure -- but as previously said ... Winn was not Logan. Winn had an entirely different incentive to stick around. Love.]

I know, but I don't think it's something people choose. [Is it? Her Logan chose to leave before when she still needed him. He left the team with Jean and she felt so lost again.]

And even if he does wake up it could be with more memories. [Even if he doesn't know he's wonderful, he is and the possibility he'll wake up in love with someone else is too real. It's also happened to her before with Reid.]

[He sighs, softly, before he strokes his fingers through her hair.] Well, I know that when he can, he will come back to you. And if he has ... more memories, well. We cannot judge those until he returns. We can't work on no information. But I am here with you, no matter what.

[She's calming and relaxing with the touch and reassurance. Unwanted thoughts have just been boomeranging around in her mind for days getting louder and more persuasive, but he managed to chase some of them away and quiet the rest to a reasonable hum at least in the moment.] I know you're right.

...I'm not very good at waiting. [Driving herself crazy with no idea what to do with herself.]

[He is keeping calm and quiet, letting her sink into his solitude with him. Let it her be lulled with his firm assurance.] Well then you shouldn't be surprised.

[A soft laugh.] You are horrid at waiting.

[She doesn't smile, but it's a near thing. Closer than it's been in days.]

So what am I supposed to do? [Give her some direction. She might even take it.] So much of her life was fighting monsters she could see. They were always too big, too powerful, and way too many, but they were as tangible as she often isn't. She could hit and claw and phase her way through them. She could be active and making a difference even if it was a drop in an ocean. There's nothing to fight here.]

[He thinks about that, for a long time, before he states simply.] Take on one of Winn's projects. Something he cared passionately about, that he would want to see continued in his absence. It will keep be a way to help him, and be with him, even when you can't be. It will also keep you from driving yourself insane, which we would all appreciate.

[That's actually...kind of a great idea. She'll have to think about which and she's sure she doesn't know all of them, but it does feel like a good way to connect with him when she can't do it any other way.]

You think you'd miss my sanity that much?

[He smirks against her hair - both for the surprise acceptance of his idea, and the question about her sanity.]

My dear Kitty, since I am fairly certain your sanity is the only thing that keeps you together at the seams, I would not relish stuffing you back together. You're a biter.

I'm almost sure I've never bitten you. What has Winn been saying about me? [You know, back when Winn could say things about her.]

No, but I note you did not say you would not bite me in the future. [Is his innocent reply.] And you know very well Winn would never tell me.

I'm not in the business of making promises I might not keep. [About as playful as she's getting and a sigh follows his last comment.] Oh, I know.

[Not that she wants Winn idly talking to people about their love life, but they did have a fight not too long ago over Tyrion. Winn felt like Kitty had set up a thoughtful and romantic date for him with his favorite meal. He might hate that she's here now too, but he also didn't want her being unable to see her friends so here they are. And those memories may now play themselves for Tyrion on top of it all. Hazards of the planet.]

There's something to look forward to. [All those memories flood through him, and he lets out a wry snort.] He pays me a greater compliment than he knows. Especially considering ... well.

[That Winn was, and always would be, a million times better for Kitty. Or at least that was the thought that Tyrion had. He wasn't a sweet man, he was a kind man but not a trusting one. Winn was all those things, and more. He would always be able to give Kitty more -- and Tyrion knew it.]

[She pulls back if only to sit at a less awkward angle, but she keeps a hand in his.]

You know I can't argue that you'd be better for me than Winn. [Because loyalty and love and all that.] But you're a great guy, Tyrion. [That's why she was drawn here when she was feeling lost. He may not trust easily and neither does she, but she does trust him.

And how do you compete with Winn on sweet? Winn really does seem too sweet to be real. If their situations were reversed he'd be... What? What would Winn do?

Work frantically trying to find some way to wake her back up probably and still find time to have surprises waiting for her when she does.]
