[When the feed turns on, the fleet will immediately be greeted by the sight of a very excitable mabari puppy sniffing at the screen and trying to bite it. There's laughter behind him as his mistress pulls him back.]

Nice try, you little rascal.

[Riona plops him on her lap, keeping an arm securely around him. The ocean serves as the backdrop, the waves crashing against the shoreline. The sun is shining, but Riona's smile seems even brighter as she addresses the fleet.]

Everyone, meet Kiter. He's my mabari from home! Though he is much tinier than the last time I saw him... The tree must have made him little again. I can't fathom how or why, but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth.

[She presses a kiss to his head. He barks happily, though he keeps wiggling to try and get at the communicator.]

Maker, I missed you. Though you're a puppy again, you still knew me. [She looks back at the camera.] The tree has been kind to me. Kinder than Atroma, at any rate. I'm grateful to it and this world. But I digress. If anyone wants to meet Kiter here, we'll be by the sea. He always liked to chase the seabirds. And I will not pass up the salty air.

[That is where she will be, sitting on the beach and playing with her hound. The little guy will be running up and down the place, chasing birds and walking up to passersby. And be absolutely adorable, of course.]

Yes. I know Marian misses hers terribly. Perhaps the tree will be as kind to her and bring hers here, too. [She hardly knows if Adalwolfe does, but he is not the person she wants to be thinking about right now.

Kiter whines in confusion as he keeps pawing at the screen. He bumps his nose against it and then leans back. Fenris remains the same, and this baffles him. How is a person there but he can't touch or smell them??]

He is another place, Kiter. You can't reach him, only see and hear him.

[...

HUFF. Kiter is not amused.]

Perhaps that will be the case. She would likely be insufferable if it did not.

[Yeah! Let's never talk about Adalwolfe, he is very much behind that. Fenris gives a soft huff of amusement.]

I see he has the typical Mabari tenacity.

If she gets too bad, kick her my way and she can borrow Kiter for a little bit. Not the same, but it might at least help. He's a sucker for attention, anyway.

Naturally. In time, once he gets used to this thing and get a little older he'll settle a little. Right now I think he's mostly just confused.

[He huffs again and bats at the communicator. Hard enough to knock it out of Riona's hands. In the background there's an exasperated Kiter, just leave it before it's picked back up.]

Well, of course. We could not be further removed from Thedas. There is a lot for him to adjust to.

I know. Maker knows the dratted thing gave me trouble when I first came here, too. And he doesn't even have thumbs.

[Kiter curls up on her lap, admitting defeat for now. Riona scratches behind his ears.]

Still not sure how he's a puppy again, though. Or why. If Atroma had brought him here, I'd wager it's so I didn't have a living weapon, but it was that tree.

I honestly would not be surprised if Atroma had some control over the tree. As the likely do with everything else we have encountered. They are powerful, and the cage they keep us in is vast. They are likely pulling at all the strings.

[Man that is not a happy thought.]

Given their ability to snatch people from other worlds, I suppose it isn't entirely beyond them. And given recent events, perhaps they feel that those of us in the fleet having a chance to get something from home will help appease us.

Perhaps. There is very little we can do against them, but they may wish us to appear content. Especially if we are watched by others, as they claim.

I suppose watching people be miserable all the time would get dull after awhile. [Such sarcasm.]

Well, Atroma or not, might as well take advantage of it. Is there anything you'll be wishing for from the tree?

Even they have their limits.

Are you seriously asking me if I'm planning on using the magic tree?

[Magic doesn't bother her all that much.]

It doesn't bite and you just have to hold someone's hand. Hardly the worst thing to have to do.

Not even going into the issues I have with magic, I do not enjoy being touched. Contact makes the lyrium hurt.

[Riona knows better than to touch the issue of magic. It's a hot button topic with many, and she won't be drawn into an argument.]

I apologize, then. I wasn't aware. [She had wondered what those were on his skin. And she's kind of afraid to ask how they got there.] Maker, I hope the locals haven't been too pushy with you, given how touchy they are.

[Wise choice, on her part. Those arguments never end well for him. ]

[Largely because he doesn't like talking about it, much like...everything else in his existence. ]

I have largely avoided the place. When I have gone out, it has been to less populated areas.

A shame, it's a lovely place. But I understand. [She pauses, considering.] Sometimes they back off if you're walking with someone else. If you'd like, I can walk alongside of you. If nothing else, I can glare and look menacing. [She grins, mostly teasing.]

[Aww, Riona, that's sweet. He makes a soft, quiet noise of amusement. ]

Well, perhaps I will take you up on that offer, if only to see your menacing glare.

It's quite the look. Makes men tremble in terror and women faint. It even made the Archdemon cry.

[Okay she's snickering now because she knows she's being ridiculous.]

[Okay, good job, Riona, that got an actual laugh out of him. ]

Ah, I did wonder how you were able to defeat it. Now I know your secret.

[VICTORY.]

You mustn't tell anyone. I don't want Weisshaupt thinking that whole business was easy.

I assure you you shall have my utmost silence on the matter.
