Winter & Vision's (not so) Excellent Adventure

[ This thread is going to serve both as a canon update to post Captain America: Civil War for Winter and Vision, but also be used as a monthly catch-all with prompts. ]

[ It's been a few weeks since they've landed, so Winter's finally gotten over most of his initial uneasiness. Enough to finally venture into the forest for a hike and get the lay of the land. He's familiar with the beach and the markets, and he's heard things about the forest and a certain tree, so he needs to see for himself if the rumors are true.

It's relatively peaceful, and he hasn't come across anyone else yet. He's making his way around a fallen tree when an animal jumps out of a nearby bush and startles him. Winter stumbles back, and his immediate reaction is to reach out with his left hand to steady himself. Unfortunately it's still broken, so it doesn't cooperate like it's meant to. Which means that he trips and falls. Down a steep hill. Only having one functioning arm means he raises his right to shield his head until he can manage to slow down or run into something. Which is exactly what he does before his head smacks solidly against a hard surface. ]

[Meanwhile, the Vision is similarly engaged in heading toward the tree to investigate it. He’s heard you need someone’s hand to hold in order for the magic to work, but his curiosity has the better of him and he’d like to observe it in action first. A scuffle down below his flight path catches his attention, and he swoops into the forest to see what’s going on just in time to see Winter, of all people, taking a tumble down a steep hillside. He rushes over to try and intercept the man before he seriously hurts himself, and in his rush he miscalculates his own density and slams down hard enough that Winter smacks his head against the Vision instead of catching himself safely.

Oops.

The impact is enough to snap the Vision’s head back and hit it against the tree he’d been trying to prevent Winter from hitting. So now there are two enhanced individuals knocked out on the forest floor. How very impressive.]

At the end of the day, it has to be less about who's fault it is, and more about how everyone can move forward. I wanted to just forget I had said or did any of those things. I felt like I needed to, to move on. But my sister and my friends... they recognized what I wanted to hide away but they still wanted me around anyway.

It's good you have friends to support you.

[ He does, too, but he's being stubborn about their help. ]

You didn't hurt them too badly, did you?

I mean, no one got killed. But I did hurt them. At some point, any degree of hurting them is too much.

How are your friends dealing with it?

[reconstitution]

They're taking it better than they should.. I could have killed them.

[ The guilt's eating him alive, but honestly, he deserves it and can live with it. ]

[takingkarabusiness]

Can I give you some advice?

[ she won't wait for an answer ]

Let them be there for you. You don't have to feel okay about what happened, but if you really feel guilty about it, don't finish what you started then by pushing people away, okay?

[reconstitution]

[ Well, he already tried pushing them away, and it hasn't seemed to work. Though he's not as close with some of them as he used to be. It'll be a long time coming before he trusts himself with them again. ]

I'll try to keep that in mind.

This place seems so harmless, it can be easy to forget they an just do whatever they want. I'm sorry that happened to you.

[reconstitution]

It's not the first time I've been somebody's weapon.

[ It's easy enough to brush off the Atroma's assault on his mind as one more thing to add to the list of horrors. Doesn't make it right, but there's nothing that can be done about it. ]

Whew. I didn't really expect to go there so quickly. A few months ago I suddenly remembered a lot more than I had before, and that was pretty fresh on my mind. Hearing from Winn and Kitty about what happened with you reminded me of it.

[reconstitution]

I've heard of that happening with others.

[ Certainly not to anyone he's particularly close with, either. ]

Glad you weren't a part of it.

Thanks. Again. I wish I had been, but I didn't really get my powers back until I was here, so it probably would've just made things worse.

You would have been just another target in the way.

[ Especially if she'd only recently just gotten her powers back. One more person to have a guilty conscience about. ]

In my defense, I can probably take you.

Now? Potentially. You've caught me at a disadvantage.

[ He nods toward his dead left arm. He's taken to wearing layers on this planet, though. Hard to share emotions or memories with people when you're fully covered. ]

What happened?

[reconstitution]

The same situation you heard about.

[takingkarabusiness]

[ she squints at his arm briefly. sorry if it's too forward, but she's not going to keep pestering him, so she x-rays his arm, then looks a little surprised ]

It's a prosthesis? A... very complicated one...

[reconstitution]

That's right. Just as strong as I am, but it's more durable.

[ Damn lethal in a life or death situation. Fuck, he nearly killed Wrath, and he caved Coil's chest in with one punch. ]

How did it become disabled?

[reconstitution]

Coil. He used some sort of magic on it. Parts are corroded, the wiring is damaged potentially beyond repair. The plating will need to be replaced.

[ His analysis is more clinical than it maybe should be, but it's not as bad as it could have been, right? His whole arm could have been blown off. ]

I'm sorry all of that happened. Again. It just sounds like a horrible experience for everyone.

Did you completely lose function?

[reconstitution]

Yes. Some of the plates near the elbow have oxidized.

[ Absolutely fucking useless. Nothing but dead weight hanging off his shoulder. ]

[ she winces a little ]

Are you okay with that? Can anything be done?

[reconstitution]

I don't trust myself to have it back yet.

[ ... ] There are technicians in the Fleet who could. If they were amenable.
