Captain's Log 04 - It's a Rock Party

[ Hello, fellow Drifters. Today you shall find one Captain Kirk, currently of the Tourist, smiling into the camera - perhaps a bit to delighted for everyone's comfort, so if you know what's good for you turn off the broadcast now. Or stick around. It's really 50/50 with him some days. He clears his throat, for a moment attempting to look serious outside his obvious delight. ]

So, first things first, some house keeping -

For those who don't know, I'm James Tiberius Kirk, Captain of the Tourist, newly minted a few weeks ago. Please just call me Jim or Kirk, though. Any problems with the Tourist or her crew can be directed to me, or if I am not available you can relay a message to my first mate - Fenris.

[ Let that sink in everyone and then think real hard about if you want to go that route ever. ]

Now, with that out of the way...

[ His face resumes its delight. ]

Since we're all sharing what little treasures we've been getting from the planet we're all on, I thought I would join in the fun.

[ He messes with something off camera, and everyone will be treated to the dulcet tones if the The Beastie Boys. Kirk is bobbing his head and every now and then either strumming an air guitar or beating on air drums.

The song ends and his grin is so very pleased with itself. ]

Doubtful. We were on one of those in December. They tend to favor those sorts of locations around the Christmas holiday season.

So - wait - does Atroma make us celebrate Christmas?

No, no... lots of different cultures here have winter holidays that they celebrate on their own terms, but no one has to celebrate anything.

Ah. I mean, not that I have an issue with Christmas, I just thought it was odd that Atroma chose that particular religious holiday to celebrate or practice. Which, as you've corrected me, it doesn't.

_{[ There's a pause and he looks to her with a glint of suspicion in his eyes. ]}

Let me guess though - Atroma gets particularly interested in introducing issues or situations into our lives during that time of year?

Actually December was a relief - it was the months before that that were hell.

Scratch that, I should know. Be better prepared for when they roll around again, right?

Has anyone mentioned the calibrations to you?

Yes, I remember you telling me about them before. They used the Augments to mess with your heads, right?

[She nods.]

And that all came on the heels of a severe attack on the fleet which caused Atroma to move us all to the Marsiva for weeks, living in each other's dreams at night. So that ice planet was the first chance we had to get away from one another.

Huh, yeah, I think I would take an ice planet under those circumstances.

Still... I didn't realize Atroma had quite that much power. I knew it had a lot, but...

_{[ He frowned and touched the back of his head. ]}

I don't think it was their normal mode of operations. The other fleet... they didn't destroy us when they had the chance. Instead, they drove us into a nebula that disrupted all ship systems except for basic life support. It was then that Atroma brought us to the Marsiva.

_{[ There's a pause as he considers that. ]}

That sounds like to much of a risk for Atroma to have taken on its own, but then... well, who knows, right? We're assuming it follows the logic of a human mind, and we both know how dangerous that can be.

Very true. But ever since then, things have been different, so I don't know. Something important happened there, it's just hard to say what it was.

_{[ He growled a little. ]}

Damn. Well, I suppose that means we just have to wait another such event. It's hard to compare without another point, after all. Why is everything here about having to wait?

[She gives him a strained smile.]
