Captain's Log 04 - It's a Rock Party
Who: Jim Kirk + You
Broadcast: Yes
Action: Yes - either on the Tourist or the Planet (this post will be functioning as a semi-overflow)
When: Nowish
[ Hello, fellow Drifters. Today you shall find one Captain Kirk, currently of the Tourist, smiling into the camera - perhaps a bit to delighted for everyone's comfort, so if you know what's good for you turn off the broadcast now. Or stick around. It's really 50/50 with him some days. He clears his throat, for a moment attempting to look serious outside his obvious delight. ]
So, first things first, some house keeping -
For those who don't know, I'm James Tiberius Kirk, Captain of the Tourist, newly minted a few weeks ago. Please just call me Jim or Kirk, though. Any problems with the Tourist or her crew can be directed to me, or if I am not available you can relay a message to my first mate - Fenris.
[ Let that sink in everyone and then think real hard about if you want to go that route ever. ]
Now, with that out of the way...
[ His face resumes its delight. ]
Since we're all sharing what little treasures we've been getting from the planet we're all on, I thought I would join in the fun.
[ He messes with something off camera, and everyone will be treated to the dulcet tones if the The Beastie Boys. Kirk is bobbing his head and every now and then either strumming an air guitar or beating on air drums.
The song ends and his grin is so very pleased with itself. ]
Words to live by, my fellow Drifters. Words to live by.
[ ooc: Inside this post will be a section for continuations of planet mingle threads if we have not already started one somewhere else! Feel free to add one here if I miss yours or if you would like to start one since I'll also be putting up the original starters from the mingle. ]

But a person's Song always does, I have found. I think because you write it, as much as it writes you.

[ He tilts his head slightly at him. ]
So does the song evolve as a person grows? It would have sounded different when I was a child?

Do you hear everyone's song all the time, or only when you listen for it?

[ Maglor waggles his hand a bit in the multiversal sign for 'sort of' ]
I cannot turn it off, as such - I have heard the Song since my earliest memories. But I have learnt to... ignore it, as best I can, over the years. It becomes... background noise, I suppose. And to pick out one strain from the symphony still requires effort.

Huh. I would say that's weird, but I suppose for you it's not. Is it just like being in a crowded room, and tuning out conversations then?
[ It was a curious concept, to be sure. He thought it would drive him mad, personally, but then what did he know? If Maglor had heard it since birth, then it wouldn't be anything unusual, especially if something like song was important to his culture. ]
Has it ever... interfered? Like, gotten so loud you can't ignore it?

[ Maglor admits with a wry smile ]
I have been told that very few hear the Song as clearly as I do - and all the others I know who can are either the original singers of the Song, or like me - bards. As for that, very much so, when I was younger! I am better about tuning it out, now - but I used to get lost in Song and wander off, when I was small. Father once tried putting bells in my hair to track me, but all that accomplished was it made me cause them to chime constantly. It has been easier, now that I know how to block it - but occasionally it can still catch me by surprise.
[ He still remembers the burst of joy, when Sauron fell ]

Original singers of the Song?
[ He even got the capital S on there, having heard it, but he wasn't to sure what it meant, though Maglor had tried to explain it just a few moments before. The concept was a bit hard to wrap his head around, after all. He had to smile at the idea of putting bells on Maglor though. ]
As bad as a cat, huh?

[ He flushes a little at that ]
I was a trial, as a child.

[ He did not understand any of what Maglor just said, but he supposed it had to do with their world mythology, so he just let it go and accepted it, focusing instead on the other part. He grinned at the admission and slapped his shoulder genially. ]
Hah, you should try telling more of those stories. I bet you have quite a few adventures under your belt.

Some, I suppose. No more than any other child.

[ The other was rather pretty when he took on an air of shyness. Especially the blush. It suited the other's colors and he smiled fondly at the elf. ]
Oh come on, I'm sure you have one particularly daring childhood tale to tell.

[ Maglor shakes his head and recollects ]
The first time we went down to the Sea I was enraptured. They could not pry me away. It was Lord Osse who eventually brought me back to my parents, and Father said afterwards that he never thought any of his children would draw the attention of the Maia of the Storms.
